There are massive cultural differences between Canadians and Americans. If you can get over the language barrier, his political indoctrination and what Americans call food, you might have a chance. I hope it works for you.
KarmaInitiative: I think it is a minor issue. Especially between US and Canada; not so far and not so culturally removed. More important is the two of you as people and the connection, expectation, and trust between you. In my experience it is the balance of these three.

If you meet and there's a true, no doubt whatsoever, instant connection, distance doen't matter. My friend married a canadian, they first lived here and then she found out she ha cancer, they moved to cnada because of the health coverage. She overcame the cancer and over came thr idea of ever moving back to the US. They have been married 36 years!Good Luck! Holly

Anywho, on a serious note, it may or may not work dear. But the bottom line is you are doing with a great intention, i believe. And nothing great is achieved without some significant efforts. If it works between you two, then all is good. But if it doesn't work out, at least u will know what kind of man doesn't work for you. It is perception that could be a party pooper sometime. Therefore, pls rid yourself of the perception(and fear) that because of some distance, a relationship may not work. A great number of relationship don't work because of man other reasons, dear, and trust me, distance is not of them. good luck to you

I can tell you my daughter met her husband on line many years ago.(we all thought she was nuts to meet someone on line). He was from Colorado and she from Michigan. He came to see her here and never left... They got married, moved to North Carolina and had my graddaughter that is 7 years old now. They seem to be very happy!
Where in Canada do you live and where in the US does he live?
Myself, the farther/further away the better for me! This gives you plenty of time to know one another better.. before the first meet.
Just last night there was a guy that wrote me a few weeks ago and said: I like what I see... I think we make a very good looking couple... I wrote back and said: Yes we do... We kept missing each other. On another site we were both on they matched us as a perfect couple... Well, he finally got a hold of me last night.. 8 emails to be exact. He found out at the one site they put the wrong city where I lived, wich was 4 hours away..Me and my big mouth told him I was just 15 minutes away He then asked me what I was doing last night. I got out of it. That's why I say the further away the better!!! I'm NOT going to run out and meet anyone without, very many LONG conversations on the phone first!!!
So. in short, I think you both have a better chance of making it work because of your distance!!!

Only if he moves to Canada... It depends how far from each other you both live.
You have to take that in consideration. Most the guys prefer dating woman that live within a reasonable distance. For a relationship to really happen you have to see each more than just a weekend out of the month. I'm not exactly sure what your current situation is?

I just seen you are in Alberta Canada... WOW! You are way up there... No matter though. You or he will just have to fly for the first meeting, but, plan on living arragements for a week or two stay. That way you will get to know each other in the flesh... I'm sure you both got it down pat about all the other things you like/dislike... The rest should be easy enough to see what it's like in person!!
this is a good threat, something i would think would be more common in this page. afterall, this is a single page...
your question. difficult to say. i have a feeling that canada and usa are quite near, despite i would take Canada, so the cultural aspects are not so far away.
through this site i have only met one person abroad, quite near too, but there were still some cultural differences, i drank a lot and she didnt any way i liked her a lot..., but she found me an alcoholist. i just today talked about it with my best friends girlfriend and she laughed to me and said im not well i guess it depends from the point of view. here it is quite common to drink quite much on first dates...
but back to your situation, it is impossible to tell, i would say it can be ok, if there i a chance for you or he to move to Usa or Canada. when i had a date abroad i was seriously thinking to move there after a couple of years when i will be retiring, if my bussiness are going so i wish...

Where in the US?
Spokane is in the US and yet, it is closer to you in Edmonton that Winnipeg, which is in Canada.
so true! Buffalo, NY in the USA is closer to me than Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
I came back to Canada from northern New Jersey 4 years ago and my brother drove me here. so the US id really our backyard.
