jvaski: Have Faith ..........when the Tea Party Republicans get back in .....they'll make sure this gets fixed for ya ...
They won't have to. Obamacare solved all those problems already. It's just that no one knows it. But that's why everyone's taxes are going up next year (everyone that works for a living, of course). All the tax hikes are to support the health care reform bill that has solved the problems with your health care.
By the way... Check out Charity Hospital in New Orleans. You might get the hand surgery done there for free if you're destitute and can't pay. That's how it worked 30 years ago there, anyway.
gardenhackle: The US Dollar is a fiat currency. Just like the Euro. Get bent and bruised over one and you have to get equally bent and bruised over the other.
Was there anything else you wanted to add? This is like you telling me that football players wear helmets

Well, when you single out ONE currency with a rant while one a lot closer to home is exactly the same and no mention of it, there's room to wonder whether you did, in fact, know. Actually, I give you the benefit of the doubt because you're pretty sharp, but the response was still relevant because your post could have certainly led other not-so-sharp people to believe that the US Fiat currency was some sort of "cheat", when in fact, that's just the way the currency game is played by virtually all nations today. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
No, but Invicble Muse suggested it, whether seriously or offhand, and it really was a good idea. Instead, there are "state forums" for the US and "National forums" everywhere else. That's because we're special.

Just as special as everyone else
Thought a American national forum would be a good idea so the rest of us don't have to put up with endless mindless drivel like guns control, patriotism, state of the economy and why do they hate us threads

Come, now. You're not fooling anyone. You love those threads. You read them. You comment on them. They are the most important issues in the world.
moonmana1: Then if we are all so ignorant, please explain what all of "us" do not understand. Seems to me the basics are the basics. You must live with in your means, and not make your house payment with a credit card. Tell me why the government does not have to follow the same rules?????????????? Greed and corruption.. What else you going to tell me (us) about how our financial system is run, not to mention Congress and politicians.
First of all, I did not say "ALL" of us. Did I hit a nerve?
Debt can be a good thing if it is leveraged. So your basic rule is not always true. If you don't know that, then there is not much point discussing a whole lot more, is there.
How many people protested when the banking laws changed in 2004? How many people protested when the investment banks changed their fee structurs, compliments of Mr Bush. How many people read the entire package including the fine print when they apply for a mortgage and actually understand what it says in there? How many people do you suppose read the paperwork they get from their mutual fund company and understand what kind of a deal they are signing up for?
Scubadiva: Debt can be a good thing if it is leveraged.
That's a fact. Debt isn't naturally and automatically a "bad thing" just because it's a debt. Borrowing can serve a very good purpose and can be good in many ways. What the borrowing is for and how the borrowed money is leveraged makes all the difference between a very prosperous transaction for all parties or a disaster for both borrower and lender. Unfortunately, we did have a spate of loaning and borrowing without any of that being considered throughout the process for whatever reasons there may have been, but that's not likely to happen anytime soon.
Borrowing isn't a bad thing. Debt isn't a bad thing. Financial irresponsibility is a bad thing. That's what caused the problems. Not borrowing/lending.
