The state is broke, largely due to too many politicians slicing off big pieces of the socialist pie for themselves and their cronies. Of course the politicians blame the general population.
To try to save money, the government has changed the laws concerning retirement expecting people to keep working longer and longer.
What's more a lot of government associated companies like urban transport companies have reneged on employee agreements. For example TCL the company that runs the busses and subways in Lyon, simply announced that it will no longer respect the collective convention that it had negotiated with employees some years ago, stripping employees of a lot of advantages that were a part of their job before.
French workers are not about to just accept such measures without a fight.
So the fight is on.
At the moment there is a general strike all over the country over the retirement issue. As a result, no fuel is being delivered to gas stations and there are long lines to fill up at stations that still have fuel.
In a few days there will be no fuel to be had. That includes diesel and heating fuel.
In a poll by a French news agency 65% of the people questioned expect the strike to spread and deepen into a general crisis and to last for a long time.
It sounds like the states arent the only ones messing up..Seems like its becoming almost a world wide problem..I guess there is no sense in me moving..Like my dad said there will be some sort of problem in almost every country.

Socialists???????
Sarcozy and his bunch are damn stupid coservatives and that is exactly why Frace goes Shi* now on days!
If Mrs. Royale had won, France would be much better off
liakos: -Please. do not insult us non patriot politically aware individuals with that kind of title/ headline.
I don't know why you should feel insulted. I'm no patriot myself. But these economic crises, even if they be due to government waste and scams, certainly affect everybody.
Greece was simply the first. Then Spain, and now France.
I think all of Europe will have its share of emergency austerity measures, and the political upheavals they cause.

You know even less about French politics than you do about US politics, Dude.
Sarkozy isn't a member of the Socialist party. That's true. But France is a socialist state. Everything from healthcare, to retirement, to unemployment, to education, to transport, etc etc etc is controlled by the state through massive totally inefficient bureaucracies.
France always has had that tendency towards centralized control, and the long Socialist rule by Mitterand greatly increased that tendency.
When Mitterand left office and Chirac took over, the socialist institutions were already installed and it would have been almost impossible to dismantle them without a major upheaval.
As always socialism is a lot easier to install than it is to get rid of.
People are always willing to embrace promises that the government is going to rob the rich and feed the poor.
By the time they find out that it's really the other way around it's too late.

The game/story has episodes, and episode 1 has a different plot than episode 3. different characters, different causalities.
i took offence because i recognise an overall strategy from the people that take advantage of all of us.and i found your generalised headline supporting them.
From what i understand you are victimised by those mechanisms of exploitation (as i am).and i despise that. but that doesnt mean i will accept a generalisation such as your thread headline.
Our nations' histories are not the same, how can our presents be identical? i feel you became a victim of mainstream endorsed journalism. sorry if i sounded harsh.

I never meant to suggest that the situation in France is "identical" with that in Greece. Of course every country has its own particularities.
But certainly you and I can agree that the general situation is similar.
Corruption and waste at the governmental level bring the economy to ruin. Then government tries to tell the people that they're going to have to pay the price by extreme austerity measures.
Then the people react with strikes.
It's a mess. And it's really a scam too.
All over the world economies are being scuttled intentionally.
It's all part of the New World Order globalist takeover.
The book "Atlas Shrugged" was actually a veiled outline for the plan to subjugate nations to globalist control by wrecking their economies and engineering a collapse.
Indeed Atlas Shrugged has recently been elevated to cult status by those who intend to use the deepening worldwide crisis as a means to take over.
I don't get it,how you could be insulted by the title of the thread. Is France in crisis right now?? the answer is Yes.- Was our country in crisis a few months back and still is??. The answer is Yes.

Yeh, I think the recession is worldwide, and not likely to alleviate for a while.
Swiss Government just gave me back 3x more than what I paid in Income Taxes!
Seems the Withholding from the Savings Account interest, which I declared as Income were way more than my actual Income-Taxes! Been laughing all the way to the Bank!

Greece falls into the basket of IMF because it was governed by a totally corrupt family-oligarchy (3 names only) since 30 years now, but there is no excuse for the Greeks, because they were receivable for this kind of corrupt governing system. But France has different propositions and capabilities. I think that your government just try to avoid an IMF-intervention now before it’s too late, like Spain and Portugal do. A falling of France into the basket of IMF means the end of the Euro zone which is today anyway attacked systematically by the money-markets. I think that the real problem is the global monetary system today, which carries a war over the heads of Europe. The fact of the privileges of US$ based on the Breton-Woods agreement is the main source for it. Let’s see how it’s going to work. Anyway, the EE-Community was always politically inexistent and maybe we better think about that.

I love the Swiss in that way.
So correct.
I wonder if it will change when they join the Euro community!! lol

What is your problem? All Greeks knows that they participated over 30 years now to a very corrupt system. If not, so let me tell you that at least the monetary founds are best informed about the real political and economic issues of a land. So why to hide and pretend that WE did not fail? It's just the TRUTH.
You answered the wrong post, you should have answered to "Liakos" , who felt insulted by the title of the thread concerning Greece.-
