I served in the Royal Air Force for 5 years when leaving school and it was a great time, you learnt a trade, discipline, respect for others and self respect my only regret is that I did not sign up again. With todays kids having no discipline at home or having no respect for others should the uk and other countries bring back national service for ALL school leavers.
For me its a Yes.

cheers

Are you by chance talking about the draft as it's been referred to here in the states?

I agree. Military service in particular should be a must for everyone. They teach discipline and get values for later in life...That being said, my only problem against that is, in general, a military that is based on conscripts, has a lower quality than those that are fully volunteer.

Draft is actually Involuntary Servitude!
Some consider it Illegal under the US Constitution!

Matters little whether an Individual or the Collective exercises it!

I understand where you are coming from but they would soon get brought into line especially if they were sent to the geenhouse where if you did not do as you where told then pay the price.

I believe that's why they did away with it in the United States...It is however required to sign up for by law, in case of EXTREME National Emergency (basically when the President suspends the Constitution)

I don't support bringing back the draft but if by chance it should reinstated it should that every and I mean every eliible son/daughter of our federal/state offices have to submit an application to join a branch of the armed serves.

It's also my feelings that if our leaders decide to reinstate the draft that they should lead by example that their own don't recieve special treatment just because their parents are in public office.

A resounding YES! It teaches kids discipline and to work as a team. It makes them mature and gives them skills they can use when they get a job afterwards.

when it comes to discipline and respect for others and working as a unit the discipline in the greenhouse works. I saw people coming out of the green house completely different people, they came out with respect discipline and honour.

It has to be a no from me - I know the pain of losing a child and dont want to ever think of any mother/father/sibling/loved one having to endure such pain - if people want to bomb each other put them on an island away from civilised people..... if they didnt have people to poke sticks at each other cos the politicians say so then there would be a lot less sons and daughters getting taken home in cold hard boxes.....
