wexlady41: The Regulations implement Directive 2002/85/EC on the installation and use of speed limiters in motor vehicles.

Under the Regulations, speed limiters must be set so that goods vehicles cannot exceed 90 km/h and passenger-carrying vehicles 100 km/h. However, the maximum speed limits applicable to these vehicles are lower than these values: HGVs and single deck buses are subject to a maximum speed limit of 80 km/h with double-deck buses subject to a maximum speed limit of 65 km/h.

It is an offence to use a vehicle (as described above) in contravention of the Regulations. Both the driver and the owner of the vehicle found to be in breach of the Regulations face a fine of up to €3,000 or a prison term of up to 3 months or both.

Taken from Department of Transport regulations.

These values only differ because an allowance is made for different tyre sizes to the factory standard.

Taureanmale: You just dont get it. . .100kph is lethal on ANY road in these conditions, a 120kph limit is NOT an invitation to drive to that limit. If you hit a patch that has frozen in the shade or missed getting salt you ve no control over where your car ends up. And what if you come up too quickly behind a vehicle moving more slowly than you and get a wobble at that speed changing lanes. The faster you go the more damage you do both to yourself and others

I see no problem driving at 100kph on a properly salted road

salanky: your funeral so
actually let me rephrase that it would be the funeral of the people you hit when your driving like a muppet in unsafe conditions, you can be pretty sure you would be done for dangerous/reckless driving too

I hope to God you're never in a position where you will regret that. Be it injury to you... or death to some innocent person.

People shoot and stab too..... doesn't make it right.

Endangering lives is wrong no matter how you try to defend it.

Driving a truck on a motorway at 100kph cannot be compared to

shooting or stabbing people

Do you drive on motorways at all?

If you do try this ,drive at 100kph and keep it at that speed

and you will find that in no time a truck will be tailgating you

everytime you do this you will almost certainly be tailgated and

some truckers will even try to overtake you

You will see this for yourself and by the sounds of it you will be

very surprised

i drive up the m1 everyday and i am very rarely tailgated by trucks, if anything its vw passats and insignias and audi a4s and a6s that drive in my back seat(well the would if i had one)just because there are some truck drivers that drive too fast doesnt mean they all do and to be honest in my experience its not the case, many of them obey their set limits and will only overtake eachother/other cars when they really have to

I drive on motorways regularly. And normally driving at 100kph is fine.

But on icy roads and snow driving any vehicle on any road at 100kph is exactly the same as shooting or stabbing someone. The result will be death or serious injury.

if you are driving at 100k on the m1 you should be in the left lane allowing other vehicles to pass you and as such you should not be tailgated anyway dunno

I think if people (trucks, cars etc..) drive in a sensible manner then its ok. Sometime the speed limits can be a bit silly such as 60km/hr on a some parts of a dual carriageway where driving at 80km/hr would be fine. The you sometime see 100km/hr limits on dangerous bendy sections of country roads where 80km/hr or less would be better.

Roads that have been properly salted will not be icy and certainly

they will not have snow on them so driving at 100kph is ok

Did I suggest driving at 100kph in the overtaking lane?

Drive at 100kph on the left lane and keep it at that speed and

soon you will have a truck up your hole, just try it

my god talk about bad advice! the salt helps but it doesnt make every little bit of the snow/ice vanish and as it melts there will be standing water and as such your speed should be limited to the conditions you are driving in not the fact that you think its grand to be driving 100k on a wet/snowy/icy road regardless of how much salt is there, as you said yourself it doesnt give you anymore traction so your still gonna crash if you meet that sensible person with their head screwed on who will most likely end up worse off whey you smack into the back of them mumbling
