Do you give books to others as presents for the holidays? If you do, do you give them books that they have requested or asked for or do you give them books that you have enjoyed and would like them to read?

If it was someone I knew who was a voracious reader (as I am), I'd give them a gift certificate from a book store. I'd hate to try to guess someone's reading preferences. I'd love to get a gift certificate like that. Actually, I'd just like it if we had a book store in my area.

I give books vouchers, I'm an avid reader myself and even read whilst on CS. Can anyone recommend some good books to me??

Depending on what you enjoy reading, I can recommend a few good books.

And I just realized I posted this in Movies, TV, Theater instead of Books but who cares? laugh

Yes, it's my safest bet for the holidays or any occasion for loved ones and friends.

I'm an avid reader myself..of all genre's

As a gift I may give them a book "I couldn't put down" (that's usually how people step outside their "norm" and try different materials/authors), as well as a gift card to their local bookstore.

I renew my daughters membership card to Chapters every Christmas for her...

I enjoy giving books as Christmas gifts....I like to seeing what friends and family read and then giving them either a new book by their favorite author or giving them a variation on their favorite style of books (fiction, biographical, historical, etc).

One year; I gave a friend who loved vineyards and reading about them, a travel guide to Napa Valley Wineries, two wine glasses, a notebook designed for wine lovers, and wine glass charms...

Sometimes I give Barnes and Noble gift certificates. I think Amazon rules too.

I give Christmas themed books to my daughters and nephews each year and sign with a personalized message about the year, some special memories and date it.

For adult friends or family members, sometimes books are a great idea, if I know for instance, like my brother and sis-in-law are chefs and LOVE to cook, I find them some neat type of cook book they'd probably not buy for themselves and I include with it some different kitchen gadgets, for my Dad it's crossword and Soduku books and any books about sports particularly baseball or football.

Just depends on the receiver and what the person would enjoy, but I love books both giving and receiving!

I would love it too. Though I get great books. My older sister bought me Eat Pray Love last year. Also I love any book that is like the best read. You Know?smitten
