The US is not a safe place. Police here have to take tests and if they're too smart, they're not allowed to be police. And police go around attacking old people with tasers. Everyone has guns and there are shootouts on the streets every night.
I know this because I heard it from a European who never has been to America and never would go because it's too dangerous.
And we Americans are the ones stereotyped as being ignorant about the world. Go figure.
