gininitaly: Whahoooooo!!! I love Canadians and their good sense!
Canada’s Radio Act requires that “a licenser may not broadcast … any false or misleading news.” The provision has kept Fox News and right-wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage, including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the “Fairness Doctrine” in 1987.
Why would anyone revel in a restriction on free speech from a country that's supposed to have freedom of speech and the press? Is a Liberal Democracy the only kind of democracy? I guess the point is if someone or some organization is discriminated against and it fits ones personal agendy or belief system then it must be OK. The fact of the matter is that FOX News, whether we like it or not, is one the highest rated news in the US, much higher than CNN, NBC, ABc, etc.. I guess the liberals would simply sleep better knowing they can silence any opposing views.

It's not a matter of right or left, it's a matter of not putting a supportive political spin on everything that is reported.
None of our news agencies are politicised like they are in the US. Individual articles in the newspapers are a little different, but on the whole, still very fair.
Fox news is a Republican propaganda machine from what I see, and has been since the start of the second Iraq war, or even earlier. I remember watching in horror at the way things were reported, and feeling lucky to be living and freezing in Canada where the news still wasn't considered entertainment or politically motivated, and still isn't.
Our reporters pick on all politicians equally, if you get a chance look up Rick Mercer.

The trouble with free speech is..lies..misinformation(purposefully done or not) have their right in it. But news nowadays are not about informing the public as much anymore as it is to make money..when we take a look..most papers or stations are represented on the stock markets..it has to do with getting the highest ratings ..selling the most copies..because they insure that companies pay for advertisement which generates income and also raises the stock prices and generates a higher payout in dividends.. Truth in reporting nowadays has not much to do with it anymore..sadly...JMO....

Now that makes sense to me..Thankfully I get most of my news from the BBC and the do not live and die on ratings and advertising...
Part and parcel to all of it is keeping politicians honest, as if thats even possible.
If you have the media watching you all the time, and digging for dirt, rather than singing your praises and having their lips vapour locked to various anatomical parts, then it does help to create a more balanced political system.
The US media, sadly, isn't doing their "job" anymore, or at least not in the same way they used to.

So if U want Fox News on in Canada, u need to register it as possibly SCIENCE FICTION, DRAMA, or DAY TIME SOAPS...
I just don't understand why anyone would ever support and defend being lied to..

johnaustin123: With this report about Fox News, I see nothing but Liberals here from East Coast and West Coast USA. War with middle US and Canada has been spoken about for years.
I will leave it at this...East Coast, California and Liberal Canada; take a long jump off of a short pier.

As always .
And some wonder why it's hard to find FACTS in the USofA?
Because they've been magically omitted, diverted or reversed... sort of to the same place where the FED money goes... you either fabricate it or it gets lost.

There is a difference between information and disinformation

Oh, we still get all the US channels, so we see Fox, CNN, etc. as much as we want, but that simply emphasises the difference between news in the US and Canada.
We also get BBC, and everything is available online as well, so really, we get all the choices we want.

Oops.....
The facts are available, if someone wants to know what they are, although few really care. It's apathy and complacency that will be the death knell for the truth, not bad reporting.
It's getting to be the same here too, less people care, so long as there's beer in the fridge and football or Oprah on TV. Voter turn outs aren't particularly stellar, and less people are aware of the issues this country is facing, which is truly sad.
I'm not anti-American in any way, but please keep your news agencies on that side of the border!
