It appears to me that its a lot more socially acceptable to rent a property in America, than it is in the UK.

Here, I'm a bit of a social outcast because I rent.

I've rented when the need arised, how ever if at all possable I would buy it . I don't care if I have to let some things hold, I still want my own place . It's mine and nobody elses . I can do what I want and if some one doesn't like it too bad . Every body needs a little terra firma to call there own !

demonfairy: I bought a home years ago, lived in it a while, then rented it to my aunt for years, till she broke her hip and had to go to a nursing home.I moved back in for a couple years,as i got older it got harder for me to do the repairs that was needed, hiring someone cost so much, and they do try to take advance of single woman as far as charging. So i sold it,some times i wish i had it back, then i remember all the upkeep...the taxes...
and what else... ? angel

I agree Smokey,
I built a home about 10 years, mine all mine, just like I wanted...my yard looks like a golf course, and back yard looks like a English Gardens....The backyard has a privacy fence and the patio is my haven.....Can't have all of that when I lived in an apartment...Besides I need the tax break....Soon this place will go on the market and I will have me a little cabin on the mountain....Yea....wave wave wave

The damn property taxes down there are worse than here in NH. You have to pay the town, the county and then the state, it's ridiculous. In NH, you pay only to the town

I've owned and am now renting. I'll take owning any day! I love the work involved in owning my own home. I need to find another place in the country now. My landlord is on his deathbed and his kids are selling his properties. My youngest daughter and I want to open an equine therapy center for troubled kids, so renting would simply complicate things for us.
