I've made it with a machine, and that was OKay, but it always comes out with a hole in the end... mumbling

I've made it by hand, I just used the receipe that came with the yeast, and it turned out fine.

Lot of work by hand, but loads of fun if you involve the kiddies

Making bread from scratch, mixing, kneading, setting for hours to rise, kneading again and the baking...great result. Low cost but time and effort.

Used the machine, just add prepared mix, add water and turn on machine and it comes out great. Cost of the flour mix is about double what you can buy from the baker. Time is negligible as you can program it to be ready when you want it. Set it in the morning before going to work and it has just finished cooking when you get home.

Being the almost green environmentalist that I am expected to be, I buy bread when I go to the shop. They have their oven going for the other umpteen million other lazy sods so why add to the carbon footprint.

Okay, that is my excuse for buying it. I am lucky to eat 4 slices a week and have to throw it out. But homemade is something special and always tastes better, especially toasted with butter. And it is something the kids enjoy doing, except the hard bits such as kneading.

Used to have a machine, but like others eat too much of it because I made it so nice and packed with extras (pumpkin seeds sesame seeds etc)

Bloody birdseed gets caught in the gaps. Minutes enjoying, hours to finish.

Warm hot bread fresh from the oven. Except!!!! if you read all the jargon about fresh bread, it is not good for you (something I do remember from the 70s). It needs to sit for 24 hours after baking. Old wives tale? Maybe, but it doesn't taste as good as fresh out of the oven with slabs of butter.yay

I buy bread baked in the spirit and traditions of country Australia, where bread was homemade, took time, was generous in size and full of abundant goodness. Which is brimming with natures simplest ingredients, including overnight-fermented dough delivering a healthy loaf with the best possible flavour, taste and stays fresh like for well over a week....

Comes sliced to...

Hate to say it but the cheap bread from Coles lasts a week. Must be all those preservatives which keep me going.

That is so the sesame seeds toast and the goodness comes out. Seeds on the inside do not break open to release the oil and do not digest in your body. That's why they are better on the outside of the bread.

No more like a mother's tale, to stop everyone eating all the fresh bread LOL. I made bread for years by hand and loved it. i have never used a bread machine and never owned one. It can be fun and rewarding doing it by hand. The main thing is to follow all the basic rules and you can't go wrong.

The water needs to be 40degrees when added to the dry yeast.
The mixture from then on should not be exposed to draughts, more heat or cold until it has proven. I used to put my dough in my bed wrapped in the quilt. Make sure your oven is hot when putting the loaves in too, otherwise you end up with a brick. Best not to use any metal utensils as they quickly take heat from food, and the bowl should be china, pyrex or ceramic. If it strongly smells of yeast, you have most likely done something wrong. I'd love to make it again, so if you're looking for a baking companion, i'm available ! Cheers and good luckteddybear PS Don't like banana smoothies, i'll just eat the banana thanks !banana
