Merriweather: Friendships come in all different forms.
There are those friends that you have known for 40 odd years, then those for 30 odd years and so forth... and the best thing about this type of friendship is... you dont have to see and talk to them regularly... every so often will do..
then you have friends that you see more regularly.. thats good too...
then I have an ex bf who still rings me up to say hello... I reckon we will always be friends.
Then there are the CS friends...
The friendship I have with my children, that's different. The friendship and love I have for my granddaughter is different again...
The friendship I have with my daughter-in-laws families.. and extended families.. now that is quite something special.
Now that my daughter is a grown woman and married I still don't think of her as my friend nor did I when I was raising her. I do believe in friendship but not to the point where you put your heart and soul into it.
If you put honor and trust into a friendship you make yourself vulnerable to getting hurt and getting hurt by a friend is just as bad as getting hurt by a b/f or g/f. I've been hurt by friends too much and now I'm going to take the safe road and be friendly. I trust my daughter and that's where it ends.
Your question is a bit unclear. Are you asking whether friendship is the most important element in relationships, or if having friends is the most important kind of relationship?
Yes to the former, no to the latter. For me, my most important relationship is my romantic relationship (which must incorporate friendship).

I would like to joke with you about your comment but it will be taken out of context so I'll just leave it alone...
montecito: Leni, I know it's thought that we are supposed to keep our friends close and our enemies closer but I don't feel that way.
I know who my enemies are so, I keep my enemies close and my friends closer..

Sometimes it's hard to figure out why people do the things they do.
I have a simliar situation.I had someone admit to someone else that they were jealous of me and that they hated me.I figured it had nothing to do with me cause I knew in my heart to do anything for them to feel this way about me.
I knew it was all about them and what they didn't like about themselves which had absolutely nothing to do with me.I just moved on.
