We have half of the Europe in financial mess and now US.

Are we just about to undergo world depression?

Even our banks are predicting that the reserve bank will drop interest rates by 1% over the next 12 months.

No doubt we will be affected by it all sooner or later, many people are already feeling the pinch conversing

You only have to look at your grocery, utilities and fuel bills to know how prices have leapt up in the last couple of years, so I have no clue what we're going to do if it continues at this rate.

It's particularly hard for us singles if you ask me - at least a couple can share the increases in costs and probably cut down on expenditure.

Its so true its ridiculous. As a single person it actually works out cheaper for me to eat out 7 nights a week having pub meals. Despite the fact I do eat out at least 5 of the 7 nights, my groceries still end up costing me around $ 120 confused

Supermarkets aim at families, what with 92 loaves of bread for 5 bucks or whatever it is laugh

One lasts me a fortnight so I'll pay full price thanks roll eyes

But the thing is, a jar of coffee has gone up, a can of baked beans has gone up, a packet of rice has gone up, it's the staples that we need that they're whacking up the price on.

But you can still buy a pizza for 5 bucks, go figure doh

I feel Rudd should not have propped up our economy some years back with handing out money for people so spend ... It created a false economy, that kept commercial rents way to high .. which is now what cripples a lot of businesses ...

even in the housing sector rents are not proportional with peoples incomes which sooner or later will see higher than normal eviction rates and peoples credit ratings damaged ...

We need a depression I think in order to reset the balance of our economy and wages and living costs against that of the property market and interest rates ....

We have this new breed of working class poor that are reliant on government handouts just to get by on a weekly basis ...

To me if a person gets out of bed every day and goes to work .. they should be able to support themselves and have some sort of quality of life rather than never having anything because they financially cannot afford it ...

and that's what government funding does to these people .. it just keeps prices way to high when they are subsidised ...

just part of my very long winded opinion .... mind you ... dunno

I was having a conversation exactly on this topic. Surprisingly so many people see it that way.

I agree with this, that government bonus thing a couple of years ago got people spending like there was no tomorrow .. then we plummeted into the toughest times that the retail industry has seen in years.

And it's stayed like that.

There's no middle class any more, just those toughing it out week to week, and the fat cats at the other end of the scale.

It pisses me off about the rent thing, it's pure greed, profiteering and capitilising on the scarcity of housing. I mean, they're now having open house for rental properties and 20 - 30 people are showing up?!?

To pay $400+ a week for a 2/3 bedroom bungalow or unit!! And this is in regional areas, not in the city!

And granny flats? Try $250 a week for the privilege of living in someone's backyard - it's immoral very mad

AgentAjax: have you ever read 3 wars of Albert Pike. Would love to know if it’s a hoax or not, cause if its not its pretty bloody scary bit of literature.

No mate i haven't though i have quite carefully tried to follow international markets, used to follow gold and silver when BHP or whom ever were happy for few cent change in value, then watched Hunt brothers and the US Treasury flood the world with gold by opening fort-knox (dirty rats) the Hunt brothers bailed out at or about $850 an ounce and fort-knox flooded the gold market at on or about $920. Silver went up to on or about $16 and back down to, on or about $3.50 an ounce.
At the moment Obama is trying to float the US economy by increasing taxes on the wealthy, the republicans disagree...China knows America cannot repay the bonds it holds, so mee thinks its gunner get interesting sooner than later

are you saying the working class need wage increases,
remember unless you are in a public service union its been made a lot harder to get one,
i do think its wrong that people not working with a few kids often get more money then some one who works,
no we dont want a depression, my entire working life might mean nothing if that happens, every cent i saved and worked for could be gone

I assume you are talking when gold was fixed in 1999 around $250 usd? There was also a major fluctuation either late 70’s or early 80’s when Russia flooded the market and gold dropped dramatically.

China is undermining our economy, its flooding the country with cheap goods, e.g. i've brought a couple of Chinese chain-saws, which you can buy for peanuts. As an example a 62cc Chain Saw normally would sell for more than $1500, today on eBay you can buy a 62cc Chinese Chain Saw for $109 with free freight.
That's why David Jones and a few others have no customers.

Its my view our human life is (a) very short, (b) very temporary and should not be waisted by engaging in worldly pursuits like accumulating a lot of wealth, which you cannot take into your next life experience

What amazes me, a pub meal like eye filet with chips and vegies costs $15.00 during the week. I cannot go and buy eye filet steak under 15 dollars in a supermarket here.

assuming there is a next life experience. Just read a book online by Manly Palmer Hall twice. Couldn’t believe such research can be done without google.

I spent lot of time studying Mahayana Buddhism, was dropped into debate by HHDL in the Adelaide Cathedral in 1989. I'm pretty comfortable with the Tibetan view on reincarnation...what it means etc
