Just wondering as anyone have an interest in Military History reading i find it a very interesting subject love reading about the ancient Roman and Greek armies.just tought i post it up something diffrent to chat about maybe.dunno

Just started one on Napoleon and his campaigns. Always liked to read articles on him but this is the first time to go from start to finish.

Hi biggles, yeah I've a great interest in military history, but more modern stuff, from 1798 to WW2; local, national and international, but more so the former two. I do voluntary work in a military museum also, its something different and very interesting.

Im reading a great book there about Julius Caesar what a leader one of the all time greats i think.

Ah that be cool mate fair play i have over nearly 2grand worth of books here thinking of down sizing abit mite donate a few books to yea all in great spic.

yea i big into the Napoleonics wars have you ever read sharpe by bernard cromwell there great books.

he is glorified by us all now but he was one of history's biggest mass murderers what he did in gaul was unreal, but as a tactician he has very few equals, not as politically astute as octavian (augustus) though

yea he killed 50,000 gauls in one day chopped of 25,000 mens hands because the rebeld.Scipio was another great Roman Commander.

Nice one, we'd be happy to have them! cheers We're privately run so not much if any funding.

Re; Sharpes, I never read the books, and only watched one of the series 'Sharpes Challenge', only because I got me one of the repro 'Brown Bess' muskets that was used in the filming, have a certificate for it and all laugh

The books are way better mate i must sort them all out some are casualty listings from the british army there some regimental records there aswell.

Did latin in school for the then inter cert and Roman History was part of the course. Always remember the teacher saying it was only a skirmish if over 100,000 hadnt been killed.

I was watching Military History there on Sky there was a great documentary on about Hannibal another great General nearly brought Rome to there knees.

yea Patton was known to use old ancient military tactics when he fought the Germans in WW2.

Great place for military stuff is the Imperial in London. You can do days in the place

I just after reading a book about Hannibal military campaigns against the Romans very good read and there a bit about Greek warfare the book is called Rome and Greece at War by Peter Connolly very well laid out.thumbs up
