biggles90000: Im reading a great book there about Julius Caesar what a leader one of the all time greats i think.

Caesar was more of a political leader than a military one. Scipio Africanus is still regarded by many as the greatest miltary leader although some say Napoleon or Hannibal. One thing is for sure, the modern Ruperts are little more than civil servants. Lol

Ha ha Lee; they'd love you down in Dixie. You probably don't hear much about him because the yankees went on to write US military history. Rommel also came out on the wrong side and we hear about how great Churchill was even though he marched tens of thousands into futile deaths through his stupidity and ignorance or perhaps something more sinister.

James Mason played him well in this

.. and today we are still fighting over the same sands!!!!

churchills biggest mistake was when he sank the french ships at the begining of the war killing hundreds just cause he belived they would go back on there word which when put to the test months later they skuttled their ships before the germans could take them like they promised

The 'War to End all Wars', boys did they get that one wrong, but I suppose in the context of the time they had never seen anything like it before. Machine guns, gas, tanks, long term stale mate and the horrors of trench warfare. On the reverse of the British and Commonwealth 'Victory' medal it has the inscription 'The Great War for Civalisation 1914-1919', must have really been something!

One of the greatest Roman General ever was Marius who totally reformed the Roman Army in training and conditioning which made them one of the best fighting forces in the ancient world.
