I'm afraid I know absolutely nothing about the Fighting Irish, or Irish regiments in the American Civil war. But, sorta in that same era there was a famous Carlow man, Myles Keogh, whom fought with General Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876 and was killed, all on the American side died, apart from Keogh's horse, Comanche, he was wounded but brought back to health, never ridden again and held in very high regard for the next 20 years of his life, when he died they even had him stuffed and exhibited! confused

There a a few greats films out mate Glory,Gettysburg,Gods and Generals.I have keen interest in the Amercian Civil War.

As for Custer Regiment the 7th Cavarly was mainly made of Irishmen.

Yeah thats right, 7th cavalry, apparently the myth goes that the Indians would scalp there victims but when they came to Kehoe they didnt due to a 'lamb of god' medal he was wearing, they were afraid to interfere with him lest they should bring bad spirits upon themselves uh oh

I really enjoyed 'Der Untergang', I believe its pretty historically correct and a really chilling insight into the last days of the Third Reich.

One of the most disturbing war movies I ever seen was a Russian movie called 'Come and See', its just creepy, even thinking about it now gives me a chill!! uh oh

The old ones are good alright, like 'A Bridge too Far', 'Battle of Britain', 'Bridge at Remagen', 'Cross of Iron' etc, but then the likes of Dirty Dozen, Where Eagles Dare are a bit too 'Hollywood', I dont like Saving Private Ryan either, its a bit too 'go team America!' for me.

Speaking of A Bridge too Far, man, the intro titles for that, the list of stars!! Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Gene Hackman, Lawrence Oliver, Robert Redford, Maximillen Schell, Dirk Bogarde........what a cast!!!!!! You dont see that too often.

The Russians make some good movies!! I seen one recently, 'The Fortress at Brest', really graphic WW2 movie!

Is that the 'youre an eggplant' scene? uh oh I only seen the movie once, so I have no idea.

Thats one thing about the old movies, frikkin; excellent intros.

The intro for Where Eagles Dare, A Bridge too Far, Battle of Britian, Cross of Iron, all epic long tunes! head banger

Green_Sleeves: My pet gripe with war movies, is the likes of 'Valkyrie', where it had the potental to possibly be a good movie but the Germans are speaking with English accent?! Thats just too confusing, I want them speaking German.

Actually speaking of war movies, cant believe I forgot 'The Longest Day'!! That movie seems to go on and on.....in a good way!

One thing thats badly needed is a decent WW1 movie, I kno there's 'All Quiet on the Western Front', Bluemax, Aces High, etc. Bu ttheres no decent, modern WW1 flick, the movie 'A Very Long Engagement' has some pretty graphic and realistic 'action' scenes but its all wrapped up within a love story.

Yeah, forgot about that, that was pretty good actually, emm.....'My Boy Jack'?? A real gritty, true to life, minus the soppy love story stuff, moving WW1 movie would go down a treat!
