biggles90000: i didnt really like The Thin Red Line but did think that film the Dirty Dozen was excellent.

@Green-Sleeves - I didn't realise there was an original version of 'The Thin Red line' thumbs up

@Biggles - Dirty Dozen was good craic. I liked 'The Wild Geese' with Roger Moore and 'The Dogs of War' with Christopher Walken.

Another goldie oldie was 'Never So Few' with Steve McQueen and Frank Sinatra.

Hi Rosa. Have you any particular areas of interest of WW1 or 2? Have any family connection to the conflicts? handshake

Del, yeah the original 'The Thin Red Line' from the 60's I believe was more of your typical gung ho war movie that you would expect from that era but still with a dark edge to it. I dont know how Mallick came about with the remake the way he did, he split one character into many 'all voices of the same man'? I believe there is a 6 hour version of the movie floating about somewhere that has cameo's from many other famous actors including Mickey Rourke!

Excellent! Enjoy it, wish I had a family member to research! moping The only bit of research I did was when I bought a pair of WW1 binoculars, the leather case was marked 'PO (petty officer) Lawson, D coy 'Drake''

I was able to get his service records for a few euro and discovered he was quiet a character, found of the drink and getting himself in trouble, even struck a superior offier once. A Scotsman too! laugh

'Drake' was apparently a naval reserve unit, see if there is anything in your books?
