grizzwald: I understood your sarcasm...I choose to basically ignored it as it is such an old stance it has become very stale....does the sun EVER shine over your home....you need to get some brightness in your life.....just my view....
I live in the UK, what do you think! The day the sun shines over here thousands/millions of people will burst into flames. If you are talking metaphorically then No. I'm the one complaining about the clouds never having a silver lining by the time I get to them.
PS If I want brightness in my life I'll get a can of petrol and a match (there really needs to be an emoticon for sarcasm)
grizzwald: I don't understand why anyone has such a downer on life ....Try to see the good in things cause they are not going to change back ....One HAS to conform to society because society will not conform to you...
voting has very little if anything to do with how Society behaves toward anything...society will change with the wind and it is anyone guess which way that win will blow...
30 years ago society would have thought nothing of a 9 or 10 years old swimming in the river with no supervision...today a parent would be subject to fines, perhaps even jail time for neglect, or your kids being removed from the home even for allowing such to happen.
And we conformed to this....it's not always for the good ....but you can't stop it tho

But you choose which way the wind should blow....Far right or far left, inbetween, that´s proven to be a failure..
grizzwald: I try not to choose ...I just as my wife says, she tells me what's good for me...But I have always discribed myself as a very Liberal independent with conservative ideas....
Say helllo to your wife!!
And I´ve always descibed myself as ultra conservative right, with liberal ideas...
montecito: I lost my job because I worked for lawyers. That in itself explains it. They gave my job to another legal assistant who now has the workload of two attorneys. I made good money and it was their way of saving it for their own luxuries. It had nothing to do with unions although indirectly, a group of attorneys is the same as a Union..
Monte, it is already known at my place of business, that when I retired, they will not replace me, but will expect the other girl in the office o do her job and my job. When my assistant retired about 5 years ago, they did not replace her, I had to do it. I'm seeing employers more greedy than ever before and I've been working along time. Sometimes, I think they're actually trying to kill me.
AtwoZ: Not an expert on USA unemployment data, but if these datas correct, well,no wonder...And it´s not that different from European likewise,-we´re rowing the same boat....
Now I'm no expert, but I would venture to say the following could be at least a part of the unemployment problem:
People are spending much less than what is customary, even the ones who can afford to. (Less movie-going, less restaurant dining, etc...) People are going camping instead of staying in hotels and motels, using bicycles and public transit much more, or walking, purchasing less and less in first and second run stores (the second hand industry is actually soaring now) canning and freezing their own food instead of buying the expensive ready-to-cook/eat, all these things going on result in companies downsizing. Here, in this area, two major chain grocery stores have pulled out, almost every specialty shop that would employ ten or so people have tanked, several of our best cafes have closed. Folks are holding on to their computers, televisions, cell phones, IPods, games, etc... a lot longer. The new car industry is in a terrible slump, realtors are dropping like flies, all this adds up to more and more people without jobs.

Hi, my friend.
I took a job on the front desk of a hotel a couple of months ago, as that was all there was about. Its actually quite well paid for the work and my boss is great.
It will certainly add to my resume and keep the pennies coming in, until the legal sector improves. Sometimes, its hard to be patient, but when I get annoyed I think how lucky I am to have a job at all.
Also, i have been quite amazed at how many still have the money to stay in hotels, actually. Not just standard rooms, but executive rooms and jacuzzi rooms which are quite expense.
Seems people will still always find the money for their luxuries! I think, in these depressing times, it is always good to still make room for a little frivolity!

montecito: Exactly, they wanted to save my salary.
Excessive greed, that is supposedly a good thing. Why, you had every opportunity to become a lawyer and do that to your workers but since you were too lazy to take that opportunity you will just have to pay the consequences, starvation maybe, or freezing or overheating. You should not complain. The kind of reasoning I get from some on these forums.

What are you talking about me having an opportunity to become a lawyer. You don't know anything about me other then how I said I lost my job...
When the real estate market crashed in 2008 the whole loss of employment filtered down to everyone - developers, construction material manufacturers, subcontractors, framing crews, electricians, laborers, painters, paint stores, roofing manufacturers, lumber mills and suppliers, window and door manufacturers, excavators, sheetrockers, plumbers, finish carpenters, interior designers, landscapers, real estate agents, title and escrow companies, county building departments and services, etc etc etc .
And ALL these people who lost jobs stopped buying things like cars, TV's, christmas presents, and anything not necessary to live. All those manufacutrers have layed off everyone they can to run on a shoe-string to keep the doors open.
Bring back the real estate and housing market and more than half the battle is won !
