I came across this in a magazine called "Psychologies"

"We all know one - over email and on Facebook they're chatty and flirty but in person, they're shy and retiring. That woman who seems so confident and funny online is reduced to blushing and staring at her feet during face-to-face conversations. If your're a webtrovert, remember that you are the person behind - and in control of - this extrovert online persona, so you already know a little about what it takes to appear confident and charming. Don't be afraid to translate what you type into how you speak and act"

I thought this an interesting little article, what do you think?

Speaking for myself, I think I am the same offline and online! But maybe someone will disagree.....

I am very comfortable writing, and less so speaking. I'm an introvert, basically - meaning that I lose energy around groups of people and am more comfortable one on one...also I prefer quiet environs - but that doesn't apply to someone I know.

I once visited a CSer who assumed that I was super witty and urbane and always funny - the life of the party! - and man was she disappointed to find herself in the company of a quiet intellectual type. At some point my insane and sardonic humor might've emerged (if we were simpatico), but a first meeting, unless there is very good rapport, won't go like that with me.

Hi Ambrose,
Yes, it can take a while when first meeting for the true personality to come out and if you dont hit it off, it never does come out.
Lots of people are more comfortable writing than talking.

Hi, Sunny. I've also known many who are much more comfortable talking than writing!

Well, my experience is that my true personality will come out immediately with someone I truly am simpatico with. Not completely, of course - that takes some time - but enough so that we would hit it off.

I read people VERY quickly, and know almost instantly how I'd be comfortable approaching them. Some people generate an immediate clamming up, some an immediate opening up. I watched myself do this over and over in situations when I'm working in someone's home. I know there's a lot of subconscious stuff going on.

Yes, its funny how some people just give out those vibes that make you think "I don't want to get into conversation with you" and with others it seems natural to open up to them.

I'm exactly the same all day as I am on here rollers

People seem to think I'm funny (ha ha funny, not weird I hope giggle ) but as others have said, I think some people who are confident online might just take a little while to warm up and get comfortable when you actually meet them wine

I'm t'other way on professor

I talk more than I type, also talk faster than I can type too. So, although I'm shy and retiring online I can be a bit of a motorgob in real life help

Yep, I can honestly say I'm not really comfortable writing..

Because of my lack of education I'm better in real life. The written word has power and I will always do my best not to waste the words to get my ideas across.
Simplicity is a gift to some and a nightmare for others.

That's really funny!

I think I tend to be more outgoing in person. I'm sometimes a little in awe of what I read in these forums that I'm not quite sure how to respond to emails. I tend to say let's just meet, but that keeps scaring them off!
dunno
