Look at the size of this storm in the Bering Straits. This is as bad as Hurricaine Irene only with snow instead of water although they say there will be massive flooding.

I hope if any of our peeps are from Alaska that they aren't caught in this snow storm. Being Alaska it's expected that there will be a lot of snow but I think the winds will make this much worse.

Let Alaskans worry about it. I mostly worry about BBQ now because the lamb is getting expensive.

It's very scary Monte. I am from Anchorage and my son, who is in the Guard, has been deployed to the Aleutians. It is a scary time right now there and I keep sending good vibes to the villagers, the personnel deployed to help them, the fisherman and others....bouquet

Hey Lala....So you have friends and family still in Anchorage?? That's frightening that your son has been sent there. All we can do is hope that the storm breaks before it gets worse but I doubt that it will.

The Bering is known to be a rough body of water all the time. That's where the show "Deadliest Catch" is filmed which I have watched and I'm surprised that those boats can get through those waves.

I hope your son and your friends will be safe Lala...bouquet hug

The best place to go for weather anywhere in the world is Google Earth. This is a free sign up, and provides many options. It will even zoom in on a house if you have the address from a satelite high up above.

I hope Amalala and Mudpeople read that. Thanks for the suggestion John. So here's the stupid question of the day: How do I get Google Earth? Would it be googleearth.com???

Sorry Monte, did not see anything else that you posted until now.

My son was deployed to help. Three of my children still live in Alaska, as does my father, aunts, uncle, cousins and many friends. Most are in Anchorage, with few scattered here and there across the state.

I've not heard from my son; I've seen the damage thru different weather sites and it is rough and bad there. I am going on the assumption that since I have not heard from my son that "no news is good news."

I just heard on the news that the storm is 750 miles across and getting worse. I hope you have an inexpensive way to contact family and friends. Good luck Lala...

Not recently Monte due to work and the ranch. Knowing my relatives, they'll hunker down as it blows over. They're a tough lot and know how to survive. As for myself, I still worry.

The island before yours, is my mothers.
As a teen, we traveled to the island to place my grandmother to rest.
What an honor it was to see the people of our tribe to stand and remember the family.
Tribes from all nations and all countries need to remember the lives
that have given you yours.
