Well tomorrow (Sat 19th Nov) is 25 yrs to the day since I arrived in Australia - for 12 mths laugh laugh laugh

Can't get rid of me banana banana banana

Even though I had travelled a lot before I came here, I was totally naive as to what to expect of Australia. I was planning to go to USA and Canada to look up my many long lost cousins when I got a phone call from my sis and a friend "Hey fancy going to Oz for the winter??" confused confused confused

Errrrm East? West? Ok, sounds like a plan - why not?

And here I am - aussie aussie aussie! australia australia australia

It goes without saying I feel very very lucky and remind myself of that EVERY single day as I drive around the Gold Coast and think - how did I get so lucky to live here?? danceline

Yep it must have been tough pebbles. I have a pommie friend who got married at 21 yo, the next day she got on the boat with her new husband to head to Australia! barf barf barf

Not everyone's idea of a honeymoon?barf barf barf

Think they even had to 'arrange' with their friends a time when they could have the sleeping areas (cabin?) to themselves!

She cried for weeks. crying crying blues

But after almost 40 yrs she was a true blue. australia

Hey NL, happy anniversary cheers

Yeah we came over from the UK by boat too, Mum, Dad, my three brothers and little 5yr old me laugh

Mum was so seasick we had to get off the boat as soon as we reached WA and then took the train (!) all the way from there, across the Nullabor to Sydney.

Have movie footage that my Dad, a mad keen photographer and amateur movie buff, took during the voyage daydream

geez beaurocracy gives me the heeby jeebys,we went into a hostel the first time, and i remember being rounded up like cattle at dinner time to have a meal, felt like a concentration camp.no heating in winter except a little kero one ,and the heat in summer coming thru those tin shacks geez you could fry an egg in the huts,it sur toughened you up thats for sure,i think thats bwhy a lot of times i tend to go without some comforts as i know what one can put up with lol

Wow, serene, that movie would be worth seeing? I am sure someone must have put a book together a book about the experiences of the 10 quid Poms?? Would have to be?

Nullabor? My friend also got off the boat in WA and a couple of years later DROVE across the Nullabor when it was dirt road!

Wow, must be so many stories out there?
