I just received another of several messages I have received from men who have an interesting sentence in their profiles. They are looking for a 'loyal and obedient woman'. uh oh

I let this man know what I thought of such a suggestion....loyalty is one thing....but he says she must 'obey him'. Some men obviously still do not see women as equals which I find rather strange. doh

Just wondering if others have seen this as well. Also, are MEN asked to 'obey' by some women???? (and I do mean in an 'overall relationship sense')

I have been in several relationships as have most single women my age, however, only once (in my early 20s) was I ever expected to OBEY, - which came as quite a shock as both of my parents raised us to be equal in relationships and part of a team - needless to say, that early relationship was nipped in the bud. In my 30s and 40s I have never even come across a hint of this.

Are we going backwards to the 1800s?

Martia, I am not worried about it as I know what I am and am not willing to put up with. And yes, he was reported, but for other reasons in his profile...location etc. did not add up.

Actually I am neither for or against the burkha. On the proviso that it is the WOMAN'S choice as it often is......especially here. conversing

I agree that if it is IMPOSED it is not a choice, however, many women DO choose to wear it as a sign of their faith just as some christian women choose to wear a cross as jewellery. I do not believe in forcing women to do things...I did stress CHOICE so I think we are possibly in agreement.???

No flames from me. Old Rumpole...makes me smile! "She who must be obeyed" I am sure rarely was. he used to complain about having to be home in time for dinner!!

Yes, women do sometimes expect men to do certain things, just as men expect meals cooked, clothes washed, houses cleaned, children fed and watered etc. etc. Statistics still show that when both partners work women still do far more than 50% of the housework on average

Relationships should be negotiated....not dictated. Or is that just me? dunno

Actually there are quite a few christian fundamentalist churches which still teach women are "the weaker vessel" (1 peter 3:7) and that wives should "submit" to their husbands (Ephesians 5:22)

(just one of many reasons I'm not a big believer...)
