I,m in shock I guess. I've been engaged to a wonderful girl for over a year. We had a date set for January. At work they were trying to get me to quit, so that they wouldn't have to pay unemployment. For those in my age bracket you know what I'm talking about. Older more experienced better educated. The want to hire someone younger at a lower wage. Well I saw the writing on the wall and found another job. This one requires extensive travel
but pays double what I made previously.

Bottom line. She doesn't like me being gone that much so her solution. Break up. In this economy jobs are hard to come by and well paying ones even harder. I explained that it was temporary until I could find something local. Worst case I plan to retire in 5 years.

I got a text Friday ending things. I'm a little disappointed to say the least.

Im sorry to hear that hug But it sounds to me like she is being honest in her accesment. The text thing was cold, but waiting five years for someone to have time to devote to the relationship is a lot to ask. I wish you Happy Holidays wine

Excuse me for expressing my confusion and wondering.. Was that an online engagement? It doesn't look to me that you've just signed up on here and the fact that she broke up with you in a text feels to me like she took the easiest way out.
I feel the right person would have been able to see the positive sides about your new job for both of you. By the way, congratulations!

I agree with this assessment, if her feelings were so shallow (and she sounds a shallow person) then it would have been something else later. Maybe you had a lucky escape, although it may not seen that way now. Go for your new job and make some bucks.
Next time I hope you find a better woman.

Well you seem to be recovering quickly since its been a week and you are already on the prowl. I'd hazard to guess that there were issues that perhaps you were ignoring, since there wasn't even a discussion of possible alternatives to change the situation.

As well, maybe she got cold feet - January is very close ...... she should have spoken with you in person though.
