So now that 2011 is almost over - what are the best things that happened for your, and the worst in the last 12 mths??

For me the worst things were the terrible floods and Cyclone Yasi at the beginning of the year. The earthquake in Japan and of course the continuing earthquakes in Christchurch. moping blues crying

And of course leaving a couple of good friends unexpectedly and way too soon is always a shock.

The best - my daughter getting her drivers licence dancing meeting a lovely man completely out of the blue, and meeting a lot of gorgeous oldies in my job always makes my day. hug kiss teddybear

Anybody else?

I really cant think about anything really terrible that happened to me this year, nothing that can be compared to the QLD floods. So that would have to be the worst thing, so many people losing loved ones and their homes.

The best thing to happen goes in this order...randomly coming online and finding an email from my future partner, Falling in love with him, moving to South Australia to live with him, falling pregnant and finally asking him to marry me. I think that it is safe to say that my life is perfect.

My worst was watching the degree of bullying my son went though and the lack of response from the school. Nothing worse and very difficult.
My best is always the end of the year. I don't know what it is about Christmas but it always makes me feel like I've had the most wonderful year regardless of anything that has happened. I can't explain it; it's such a magical time of the year for my family and I.

I hate it and it has actually gotten to the point of the school calling the police for one of the incidents and I have also typed up a 3 page letter to the school but have also told them that I will take it further to the department of education if things get any worse. Don't get me wrong; he has always been bullied since year one and we have never complained because the school (primary) has always done what they can and kept me informed where as the secondary school has been plain hopeless and noone can believe their lack of responsability. I have even tried to change schools but no luck due to regions and how full the school is. Damn it. The school he's at have made alot of promises for the new year and I will be holding them to it. very mad

Larf , what you need to do is get a sneaky vid of the kids doing it , approach the parents and show them the video. It may be the wake up call they need to have their eyes opened and shown what their kids are actually up to.

My daughter was running amuck when she hung around a specific girl at school , i interviened , and now they arent allowed to sit near each other in class , her attitude and grades have improved ( grades not so much , but the attitude did , and im more than happy with that! )

I am not at the school to see this as I am at work. He isn't interested in karate or anything like that; I have already tried that. He is doing a new sport which is really bringing him out of his shell with people which is great and the school have put him in a boys group class which teaches how to deal with people without having to touch them. We will slowly get there I'm sure. The school knows I'm very serious and will stay on top of it all.

I know exactly how you feel, it is very frustrating,it started in prep for my son,the second incident he was punched in the stomach and locked in the toilet, could you imagine how scared he was.I approached the principle and she came face to face with me and looked down at me and said that does not happen at this school,he is now starting year 5 at a new school.he still gets stress attacks where his throat starts to close up.we have only lived here for 12 mths and it has a lot of undesirable people here.I wish I could find a nice town to live where he could feel safe.he is such a lovely caring very smart little man and just want him to have the best start in life.as life is hard enough when you are a grown up. I wish you the best of luck with your son and remember there will come a day when those bullies will have something happen to them and they will say what did I do to deserve this. Carma.

Went thru something similar with my daughter when she moved from primary to secondary school.

There was a 'Queen Bee' who ruled the roost and all of my daughters friends from primary followed her like sheep!! She picked on my daughter so she was alienated.

After a year of this I agreed to her moving school, didn't want to, but could see how it was affecting her. Sooo much better at another school. But I did warn her that there are bullies in every school and even if she got her head flushed down the toilet at the new school - she was not moving again!! devil devil devil

Unfortunately approaching some parents doesn't work, they are as bad - or worse than the kids and just don't want to hear that their 'darling/princess' could possibly do something like that?? doh

Or they just don't want to or know how to deal with it, no idea about parenting?

Good luck with that Larf. teddybear

dunno about the worst but think this got to rank pretty high in my books for young achievers this past year

Round the world yachtswoman Jessica Watson and her crew of “juniors” aboard the Sydney 38 Ella Baché crossed the finish line in the 2011 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race at 3.12pm today - the youngest-ever crew to compete in the race - all are under 21.
Not only were they youngest-ever crew in the hands of one of the youngest skippers in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s race ever, but they finished second in the highly competitive eight-boat Sydney 38 One-Design division and ahead of their coach Chris Lewin aboard Deloitte as One.

In the final chapter of their race, Ella Baché beat another Sydney 38, Bruce Foye’s Australian champion, The Goat, by just four minutes.

For many years, my daughter and son went to Karate schools. My daughter ecelled but there was limit to her commitment. She was engaged and living with a fella who did mainly maual labour. When he became a bit violent, she (all 5'1"} beat the crap out of him. My son on the other hand who went through the same classes over the years is 6'4" and is very gentle. But the Karate classes they went to were not teaching them to be violent but how to 'channel there forces.'

But schools will only do something when you get on their back about an issue. So keep on doing it and hope everything works out well for you and your son.
