Dear Mom and Dad,

I died today. You got tired of me and took me to the shelter. They
were overcrowded and I drew an unlucky number. I am in a black plastic bag in a landfill now.

Some other puppy will get the barely used leash you left. My collar was dirty and too small, but the lady took it off before she sent me to the Rainbow Bridge.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't chewed your shoe? I didn't know
what it was, but it was leather, and it was on the floor. I was just playing. You forgot to get puppy toys.

Would I still be at home if I had been housebroken? Rubbing my nose
in what I did only made me ashamed that I had to go at all. There are books and obedience teachers that would have taught you how to teach me to go to the door.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't brought fleas into the house?
Without anti-flea medicine, I couldn't get them off of me after you left me in the yard for days.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't barked? I was only saying, "I'm
scared, I'm lonely, I'm here, I'm here! I want to be your best friend."

Would I still be at home if I had made you happy? Hitting me didn't
make me learn how.

Would I still be at home if you had taken the time to care for me and
to teach manners to me? You didn't pay attention to me after the first week or so, but I spent all my time waiting for you to love me.

I died today.

Love,
Your Puppy

My friend sent it to me.... And since then my eyes are full of tears every time when it story comes back to my mind.

Just wanted to share! blues

Hi Konigsberg,so lovely to see you back in the Forums.cheering

This letter epitomises the sad truth about animal welfare. Animals are like children when they are young, and likewise, need instruction, but most of all love.

My dog now 9 years old,Persian cat 14,and boy have they caused havoc over the years, but we love each other unconditionally.

Thanks for sharing.wine

I am just wondering DrB., if we consider our mankind to be the most intelligent race of the Planet why we fail emotional part of being intelligent.

As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said "We are responsible for those we tame"

Is something is missing in us? conversing

Years ago my mother left her dog (pit bull) with my daughter and I.
First it took 3 months to find an apartment that would take a pit bull.
After about 6 years the dog started getting sick and the vet bills were more than I could handle.
Asking my mother to look at her dog and tell me what she thought, she called me back and said, she was so sorry.
I then requested that she do what she needed to do with the dog because I could not, she took the dog to the shelter.
She called a few hours later and asked if I had all the dogs papers and I did, she told me the dog was so well behaved and trained that they could adopt her out.
The tears rolled down my face and I knew she would have a home with someone that could afford her health issues.
Driving home one day I saw a woman walking her and it warmed my heart to know she would live on.

So lovely to see you too Best! heart beating

I have had a Kennel and was breeding and raising Great Danes and Mastino Napoletano until I moved to Canada ... So I know too, how much patients it takes to raise a puppy. But you cannot beat the feeling to be unconditionally loved no matter what. It is a priceless feeling

My daughters boy friend (husband now) called and asked if he could give my daughter a puppy, my response was as long as you have a vet on retainer my answer is yes!

As I was on my hands and knees scraping up the remains of my second couch, my daughter walked in and laugh she said I'm so glad you have a light heart about this and joined me cleaning. I'm the one that said you could have a dog.

Her dog is older now and is sickly, how do you care for an aging pet?
Do you let them suffer?

I believe there is something missing in us big time-I always think to myself we are the most intelligent life form on earth yet we are the lowest-JMO & statiscally it bares itself out eg-greed etc., and human frailty-hearts overrule our minds in some instances. sigh conversing
