It took a while to download... and cos I have a dicky dongle too, but jeez, that poor dad, he was really cross.. you could hear it in his voice.. and I dont blame him... I think tho.. he could have taken the lap top away rather than shooting it... but I guess everyone has different ways of dealing with anger...

Looks like he means to take away priveledges, and I suppose he will calm down in a couple of days... uh oh

I suppose just "taking it away", then the daughter would know it is still up for grabs if she behaved herself for a short time. This way, it will never happen lol

Well I know I blow off some steam on some posts! So I suppose the kid just got the bad parents!
My kid has just fried her second laptop, I cant afford to buy her a new one yet, but as I see it kids have a right too feel how they do? There is a lot going on at 16!

I am just here too keep the kid grounded, we talk everyday and tell each other our problems !

I think a bit more communication is needed here?

Hell I was working 56 hour weeks at 15 but I don’t want my kid doing that! I want my kid to live a better life than what I had to do?

And if I had the gun as well as his daughter the last thing to be shot would be the laptop!
What a red neck !

My child never would talk that way about me on face book or real life!

She loves me! We sit and talk everyday,

There is more to parenting than just laying down the rules! You have to talk about why things need doing?

And yes I am a single dad, who can talk to his kid openly!

At the moment we have my Daughter and Grand daughter living at home and my G.daughter is 11 years old ...its an entirely different world out there for children and its made up of make believe, face book, computer games and iphones.

My G.daughter has Wi, Nintendo 3D and Playstation she is not allowed a mobile or a computer to get on the internet.

When she should be outside playing she is sitting down playing on above mentioned games not there would be anyone to play with as they are inside doing the same thing.

I wonder how this younger generation is going to fare as they get older as all their spare time is taken up with this media. dunno
it takes away the ability to connect with others face to face, learn to deal with the rigours of day to day living. sigh

The trouble is even some parents spend so much time on the computer and spend literally hours and hours on face book and the like....I suppose I go on Face Book once a fortnight for 10 mins if that, CS is the only place I visit for up to an hour a day maybe, I like you guys.

Anyway I really dont know what to think about that Father on Face Book
I suppose he fought fire with fire and He did not start it ...anger and humiliation took over from there.

confused

Hi! Martia wave Yes mixed feelings here about the kid venting about her parents. I think kids today or even when we were teenagers the terrible 15/16 yrs old if I can remember the whole world owed me , we just didn't have the technology to vent on things like face book so we just sulked and though how unfair parents are. I am sure my kids were the same we just didn't hear what their feelings and frustrations were at that age. But I do remember my son at that age walking in the door after school I'd say hello son how was ya day and he'd answer hmmmmp !! and go to his room and slam the door mumbling laugh typical teenager.

I think maybe he was a bit harsh and really in two three years time she will be 17 - 18 .....old enough to leave home this could have a prefound effect on how she feels about her dad now , maybe he should have dealt with her a bit different and I do feel the gun was bit violent then only in America. help dunno confused

Trust an American to think a gun is the answer to all problems. I agree with Blizzard that better communication is needed. He's one of those parents who believes his job is to lay down the law and the child's job is to obey. Of course you have to be firm and set boundaries when needed. Clearly this kid had overstepped her boudaries there, but this was from a long lead up of miscommunication.

The kid thinks she is at her parents' beck and call, the dad says she just has to fix up her own stuff (laundry etc.) and help out with a few other things. To me there has to be a big gulf in communication.

and goes on to mention: -

In 2007, Harper received the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, in his Parliament Hill office.

The year prior to that, the exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader and Nobel laureate was awarded an honorary Canadian citizenship in Vancouver.

The Dalai Lama announced last March he would be giving up his political role as Tibet's leader-in-exile but would remain the spiritual leader for Tibetan Buddhists.
