....Scandinavians, Germans, Dutch.

Well they already know everything so why even try?dunno

They do seem to frown a lot though so they're easy to spot in a crowd.

Have met a few different people from different nationalities. Some continue the 'old life' while many have either adopted to the Aussie way of life or introduced so newer attitudes.

Even so may so-called Aussies have retained the attitudes of their forebears. When will they progress????????

daggyone: All the Indian workers I worked with put me to shame, I wish I had their motivation and work ethic.

My family has worked with many nationalities over the years. My father preferred putting Italian carpenters on because they worked a full 8 hours, ready to start work at 7.30am and didn't put the tools down until 4.00pm, unlike many others who arrived at 7.30 and couldn't be seen for dust at 4.

I've worked with many others and found the Germans very literal and industrious. But those from the sub-continent are a mixed bag. Like Aussie workers, there are those that take the easy way, some that just do the job to get by, and some that go the extra yard.

I had an Indian Manager who would have made a great Aussie Rules player, he was great at hand-balling. He was great at getting staff to do all the work, especially as he had little idea of what to do.

He was continually telling me how good he was "I can do that in 5 minutes, why has it taken a week?" When you have an Excel workbook with 8 inter-related worksheets and links to umpteen other spreadsheets, 1 little change in a formuale or an added column means a lot of checking to make sure that it is all working. And only usually 2 days (with all the interuptions from him) to make all the changes and to check it. The one time I let him work on it, it took me 3 days of solid work to fix up his "expert" work.

There are those who know what they are doing, those that think they know what they are doing, and those (like Wonder Boy) who have no clue what they are doing "but I must be good as the keep paying me."

I work closely with 6 Sri Lankans and Indians. 2 are very industrious workers and they are well respected by all, 2 have only been there a short while and appear to be good workers, while I cannot say much for the others (put on by the Indian manager who has since gone on his way leaving us with a legacy we have to deal with).

Being of Dutch descent I'd have to say there are many who fit that bill.

Ummmm, haven't you heard of William and Mary of Orange? After England decided that they had enough of the English monarchy, they invited these Dutch to take over England.

Then they get over here and set up all these massive companies and enterprises employing everyone. Why couldn't we do that?
