Apr 15, 2012 6:07 PM CST I may be missing in action for a while
I think I may have herniated a disc in my lower back. It hurts to bend over and I have pain in my right butt cheek at times extending down my right leg to my ankle.
I have a doctors appt Mon AM and my guess is he will send me for an MRI or whatever they do these days.
Just thought I'd would let you all know in case you were wondering what's become of me.wave

Hiya Ooby!!

How did you get on at the doc?

If it sciatica ... when I had it many years ago, I managed to ease off the pain and eventually the symptoms by standing under the shower and using the power jet on max force on the area it hurt the most and let the power/force of the water massage it. Then treat all other affected areas in the same way. Takes a good 20 min for pain to ease off and hurts like hell at first.

Did that everyday in the morning till it got better.

Like others have mentioned, it's likely sciatic nerve pain, which is no fun. I've had it for over 3 1/2 years now, as a result of a car crash, ended up with 3 herniated discs in my lower back.

It does get better though, with proper exercises and stretching, and for me, walking has helped a lot. My biggest problem has been sitting for extended periods of time, that tends to aggrevate it. Or lifting something heavy the wrong way.

Surgery was suggested, twice, and I did see a nuerosurgeon, but opted not to go that route. I don't see the risks associated with surgery to outweigh the "possible" outcome. If that's suggested to you, make sure you know what the risks are before you make a decision.

I don't take anything other than Ibuprofen for it, and that's only occasional, and I stay active, and it's not too bad, usually.

Hope things work out well for you.

Well, I went to my regular doctor and he said it looks like an iriteted or swollen nerve so he put me on a prednisone 6 day pack. He said let's take it one step at a time instead of jumping right into surgery. He said if this doesn't take care of it I'll send you for an MRI.
So you all are stuck with me for a while laugh
I'll post updates.
Again thanks for all the well wishes it does make one feel like people care.lips ....That's for the ladies.
cheers ...That's for the guys.

Watch that stuff....High doses or chronic use of ibuprofen increases the risk of both stomach irritation (gastritis) and the development of ulcers.

I went a little crazy with the use of it when I came down with a dose of gout. I have since started drinking natural cherry juice on a daily basis and I don`t need the ibuprofen any longer.
