Knowing Gillard's labor muppets have created a net debt of over $100 Billion dolars in just a little over 4 years. It's refreshingly honest to acknowledge that rampant unchecked debt is unsustainable.

I loved the news when they had the "Run Rabbit Run Rabbit" song playing in the background of Tony as he bolted from the Parliament chamber.
Just shows what he would do if he was running the place - bolt and run out on us.

daggyone: Voting to stop the debt ceiling being raised is like saying lets put Australia into recession and allow 1000's of workers to be laid off.

That is going to happen anyway.
Australia ia screwed.
Successive governments have facilitated the destruction of the Australian economy by the removal of trade barriers, which has caused our manufacturing sector to be wiped out.
Anyone who understands economics knows that secondary industry (manufacturing) is the foundation of all modern economies. That is where the value adding (aka wealth creation) takes place.
We no longer have that.
The only thing that is keeping Australia going is mining, which will end one day. When that happens, we will have nothing. NOTHING!
Even our primary industry is being destroyed by government policies that allow the importation of food and allows foreigners to buy farmland.
The politicians who have facilitated this are either (a) genuinely that stupid, or (b) traitors. What other description could be applied to someone who facilitates the destruction of their nation's economy.
Australia is what I call a zombie economy. It is a dead man walking, it has just not fallen over yet. One day it will . . . it must. When that happens, it will be a case of welcome to the Third World and mass starvation. Forget Centrelink benefits, because there will be not enough economic activity to support a welfare system.
Increasing the debt ceiling will only increase the magnitude of the disaster when it comes.
The Fabians of the Labor Party advocate it because they are economic illiterates who think that money is some sort of magic pudding. It is not. Wealth comes from hard work, initiative, risk and recognising opportunities, none of which the Fabians are capable of.

Sorry Martia, I was on a different train of thought - I was originally talking about Communism - Yes, but the chiefs and indians I was referring to was the Australian Politics.

I think Carl that like the unemployment rate and creative paperwork accounting practices, the govt of the day could easily pretend that we are a net exporter even if we were buying vegetables grown on our soil owned by other countries. ie: we export more veggies to China so they take that as exports even though we don't own the land or business that grew them.

The worse thing about Abbot is that because his mentor is Archbishop Pell, then you'd be mixing religion with politics... and as we all know from history... that is a right NO NO ... grin

Twinbro, part of the mighty mislead about gst, Aust is better off with it. We had sales tax on items as high as 33.3% but we couldn't see it because it was all part of the sale price. Most common sales tax was 12.5%. Your Landcruiser, Land Rover, Nissan now only pays 10% import duty, not the 33.3% tarrif.

The almighty benefit was the Services part where the few who paid no taxes (Kerry Packer and my brother) finally had to contribute part of their income in paying some form of tax.
