Kaybee50: Many people have a a cam and if they don't, they usually have no problems with getting one and getting onto Skype. It doesn't have the stigma it once did.

Now quite waving your pet chicken around Maddog!

I don;t think it's a "stigma" it is the reality of most guys who ask to cam....dunno

felixis99: right and a lot of us prefer not to invite that....in the first place...

Stay away from camming <23yr olds then. grin That's just asking for trouble. HAHA.

MADDOG69: "if I got serious with someone"

That may mean something different to others. At that stage for me, (and what I've found from others) impropriety on the cam is not going to happen. You seem to be referring to some stage before the stage I'm referring to.

I'm referring to a certain online culture that cam chat is associated with....and I weren't born yesterday...so I admit to not being particularly open minded on the subject

dont do LDRs anyway

Perhaps. And that I can't judge. For the record, I've been asked more times than I have asked. And it generally lasts very short time, and the other party seems happy and content that 1) I'm actually real 2) Wants to hear my voice or some other crap. handshake The cam might never be requested again, as a meet would follow shortly. thumbs up

The only purpose to cam chat for me is to see who I am chatting with or even talking with a microphone, what I used to do is to only open it for 5 mins assure myself I was talking to the person in the pics and turn it off, unless it was a person I had a few time chatting with and I was actually enjoying the conversation.

It is true that requesting a cam chat can be misinterpreted but in the online world it is an option to at least know who you´re communicating with and it is a FAIR option, at least I think it is fair to see who I am talking to, if the other person request from you or offers you to do /see something you consider inappropriate, you can always cut the conversation, we are grown ups its our choice to do it or not, it doesnt mean that because you ask to cam you want to do naughty things, maybe we just want to see who is on the other side and by the way a person converse one can have a type of idea what they are looking for.

But arapaho, if you're really interested in someone, why not pay $10 or $15 and buy a cam, and use Skype, or Yahoo IM, or any of the free camming options? It's fun. wine

that's nice to hear

and admittedly my feelings reflect my trust level and I really do not trust a lot of what goes on online, mainly because of the scam mail I get - just tons of it

it is also recommended not to communicate off the site - so none of those options would be possible as I do not give out private mail

There is no one on this site that you feel comfortable enough to share your private email with?

When I joined CS (almost 4 years ago) I had expressed in my profile to be contacted only by people who were willing to prove to me they were real, therefore I always requested a cam, back then I was seeking a relationship, I thought I had a chance here and cam could help me choose with who I could share some of my time before actually meeting them in real. Good news are lots of people respected what I wanted and pleased me by writing me respectful mail and showing their cams, just to simply see their faces, I also received (and still) mail from annoying people and I simply ignored/igore them. Being on the internet is a risk, you dont know who youre gonna find here,in my case I had the chance to meet 3 persons from this site in real, they came to meet me, I didnt have a relationship with them, but we met, it was nice, it was an experience, I took a risk, so now it is easier for me to detect what a person wants by the way they write me, but I aint looking for a relationship anymore.

Yahoo, msn, skype, facebook I love all that its fantastic communicating with people that are so far away from me and have so much to share, culture for example, of course I am talking about good people like all of you that have commented in this thread.

But just chatting/im'ing doesn't provide you the same amount of info about a person as camming does. You can learn so much about a person thru face to face convos.

At least you have a healthy and positive attitude towards meeting people, and trusting them. Good on ya, and don't let anyone ever change that, on here or elsewhere. thumbs up
