When I joined facebook I decided to always keep friends lower than my age, silly but works, so I have less than 40 friends, but they're people I really want there, works for me, will be a problem when I'm 100 cos I don't want that many lol, but ah will worry about that when the time comes laugh

I only have 47 friends on my fb page. Most of whom I am either related to or have met personally. A few are Secondary school and College friends. I am just very selective too as well.
The idea of having 1500+ friends is madness.

I find it great to keep in touch with family and friends around the world. No other networking system offers the range that fb do for that.

Would have met 95 % plus of the people I have on fb and communicated with the others on forums.

Some people have 1,000's of friends because they play the games like Mafia wars and when they are friends they become your ally in the game.

Glengirl: I'm a relative newbie to facebook, and I really cannot understand how people have 1528 "friends", but.......

have you ever sent a "friend request" to someone that you know won't "accept", just for the hell of it???

I've just done it......updates to follow

No never, your a devil, but you have planted the seed laugh

I always said I would never go over 50, but alas I am at 70 but they are mostly family, cousins mostly, I ignore most requests I get, I like to have the freedom to act the whack if i want, so no work colleagues etc conversing

Hi Sal...

Life with Dogs and LAW (limerick animal welfare), and the Newstalk movie club...

My eldest girl being an animal biologist got me onto LwD, it just makes me more of an animal activist the more i read it...
The LAW site is great, probbo the reason i want to volunteer for them...

Speaking for myself, I think now as i did when i first joined FB, its a "there thing" (the yoof of today) more so than a "my thing", 20 years ago, we had to "see" our friends, or god forbid "write" and "telephone" them...

Take away social media sites for 6 months and watch the decline of civilisation as we know it...

There is a thread here in the making!...

that's the thing people moan about facebook but for some of the charities it is a great way to get their name out there and get support. I help out with a reptile rescue group and once there was a decent page going the amount of animals helped and rehomed to decent people has risen ten fold. a lot of my friends on it would be animal related and range from keepers here in Ireland to world renowned breeders from the states and Germany.

Fair play to you sal...

Indeed, for every brain rotting Farmville, there is a thought provoking charity, that much by itself is only a good thing...

Just in case your interested...(note, there are some uncomfortable articles, but its mostly upbeat)...

I basically use it to spy on my oldest week girl. I've a few friends in France who I keep in touch with and a few family members. But all this updating stuff. Nope to much like hard work. And the only pictures of me are the same as I have here.

Don't get me wrong, I think FB is great for staying in touch with peeps you don't see often, I re-connected with a girl I was at school with in England that I hadn't spoken to in over 20 yrs!!!!

I had one "friend" that would post a comment and immediately reply to it herself doh ........

She fell in my recent cull laugh

I have a FB page under an alias. It is the antithesis of Facebook. There will never be any real friends on it or family.

I think the events in teh Int. forum over the past few days, show in a very small way how risky FB can be. Now we got Real names(mostly) vs CS names floating around. I notice some of the clever ones in that group didn't use their real names. Well done to them.
