After reading the following historical facts, read the part
About Switzerland twice.
A LITTLE GUN HISTORY
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.. From 1929 to 1953,
About 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were
rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million
Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and Exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a
total Of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million
Political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up
and Exterminated
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000
Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
Exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000
Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
Exterminated
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one
million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and Exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century
Because of gun control: 56 million.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians

Maybe just being prepared (armed) like our founding fathers were, answers your question to some degree.
George Washington and his rebellious gang knew full well they probably would face a guillotine for high treason if they would have lost the revolutionary war and were caught.
I'd like to se more leaders like that who don't have testicular atrophy, unlike most any of our presidents since Lincoln.

You appear to me to be the only one off track here, talking about cannibalism. Self defense and freedom are never out dated in my book.
But, if you want to talk about vpcanabalism and stay on track, I sure hope I have something to defend myself with (like a gun) If a bunch of cannibals show up at my home (anywhere actually) and try to serve me up for dinner.

Those figures don't include military action casualties, and as for how effective we would be as militant citizens? The greatest nightmare of any modern military army is an armed partisan force which overwhelmingly outnumbers the opposing professional troops and is also familiar with the local terrain.
That is the REAL reason that the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution exists.

What is a pistol against the machine gun or tanks or all the power of establishment? What can you do with your little guns against your government? It is may be that you feel safer against intruders in your house if you are armed, but not against modern government. You even are not aware of all the ways you are controlled.

So true. We have to fight back not to be target sitting ducks. Vietnam was my expieriace where i killed.....not here in the U.S.. Self defense don't even count, because anyone is guilty until proven innocent.

During the Nixon years a Russian General was taking a train trip across the US and a reporter asked him about Russia invading the US.
The General replied if it was just the US military that would not be such a problem. Russia could defeat the US military.
It was the American citizens owning 4 guns for every 1 gun of US military that was Russia's problem. He continued saying a guerrilla war getting shot at from behind every tree and rock by so many well armed citizens that was the problem. The US "citizens" made conquering America impossible, not the US military.

1.What few guns they do have are very old and far out dated.
2. They didn't have enough money to buy enough bullets.

Maybe you don't know the citizens here in the US own 4 guns for every 1 gun of the US military.
Here in "The South" ( the south eastern US ) some families own well 500 guns and huge stock of ammo.
This do not count the Bows and Crossbows many hunters use either.
Here we grow up out in the woods shooting squirrels out of trees 40 ft tall and 100 yrds away as boys not yet 10 years old. By the time we reach 30 many learn to shoot squirrels in the head from that distance to get more meat.
So body armor and bullet proof vests don't stop a bullet hitting you in the eye from 100 yrds away. A 22 can be silenced with a plastic bottle. They would never hear the round fired, just drop dead on the spot.
Stick your head out of a tank hatch and you could die instantly.
Stick a small log in the track of a tank and it goes no where.
Guess what "WE" now have that tank!!!
Many here go out to hunt and fish for a month or at time, even in the dead of winter. We can sneak up on deer and rabbits.
A soldier would be much easier!! And he would never hear us coming or see us as we wear camo clothes a lot here just to go into town.
