Centurion16: So let me get this straight, you are arguing that because a single shot disposable pistol did not prevent the need for D-Day, it was useless? That the French Patricians that used it to arm themselves with captured German weapons was foolish in their effort.

What a ridiculous argument.

While we are on the subject, the UK begged firearms from the Americans during WWII, including pistols, and millions of your American cousins answered the call with donations. They were mostly used by civil defense, but some of the fine hunting rifles were refitted as Sniper Rifles. THis was necessary because your country was so through with its own gun control efforts that they had destroyed most of the firearms needed for this purpose.

Too bad that you were not around then to tell them how futile it all was.

You're argument is ridiculous. If the men with handguns were as good as some here say they could be here, they wouldn't have needed D-Day. D-Day was needed. The Resistance was a sideshow. An honourable one, but a sideshow nonetheless.

I presume when you said "your country" you meant the UK?

MADDOG69: Listen. I've seen hundred page arguments on fora for years between Northerns(And New Englanders living in the South lol) and Southerners on the American Civil War. It's still a hotly debated subject as far as I can see. The minutia doesn't interest me apart from my own ancestors who fought in it. IN terms of this discussion, what I'm trying to show is that Lincoln DID go to huge lengths to maintain the Union. And so will every President in DC. Some of you are arguing that a localised militia would stop this? Not a chance.

If we hunters didn't scare the pants off the gov why is this?

Major General: Why Are Domestic Government Agencies Purchashing Enough Lethal Ammunition to Put 5 Rounds In Every American?

If this is true you make my point. They'll do whatever they can to have the upper hand, and have enough media and PR machinery behind them to bring along the rest.

galrads: Maybe just being prepared (armed) like our founding fathers were, answers your question to some degree.
George Washington and his rebellious gang knew full well they probably would face a guillotine for high treason if they would have lost the revolutionary war and were caught.
I'd like to se more leaders like that who don't have testicular atrophy, unlike most any of our presidents since Lincoln.

Now don`t get me wrong I do own a handgun and Im all for the right to own a bare arms ,
But owning a gun can protect you to a certain point ,not in times of exodus like the OP has numbered

bornagainheretic: Those figures don't include military action casualties, and as for how effective we would be as militant citizens? The greatest nightmare of any modern military army is an armed partisan force which overwhelmingly outnumbers the opposing professional troops and is also familiar with the local terrain.

That is the REAL reason that the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution exists.

Im aware of that ,as soon the money will be gone and 300 million angry American armed to their teeth are gonna ask, where the hell is our money

IamTab: DID YOU MISS;

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because
they knew;

Most Americans were ARMED!

During the Nixon years a Russian General was taking a train trip across the US and a reporter asked him about Russia invading the US.
The General replied if it was just the US military that would not be such a problem. Russia could defeat the US military.
It was the American citizens owning 4 guns for every 1 gun of US military that was Russia's problem. He continued saying a guerrilla war getting shot at from behind every tree and rock by so many well armed citizens that was the problem. The US "citizens" made conquering America impossible, not the US military.

I don`t know about Japan ,but even then, they knew exactly that their military power is negligible compared to the Military power of the USA and their allies .. I doubt that they were scared of the armed civilians
As for Russia ,Im afaraid it was just something your presidents kept scaring his citizens, nothing more

Well, technologies have improved in areas of miniaturization too. I mean we can carry arms like rocket grenade launchers, big didry cals and chop sticks. Chief justice Anthony Scolia might disagree about the right to carry the latter though.

Rumple4skin: Nope - and I know you'd love to blame the Canadians - it was us with the troops we had to spare after finishing off Bonaparte.

All in the past now, it's not likely to happen again.

audience and went his way. rolling on the floor laughing

ok, so, we'll give on the chop sticks then. No actually, in an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox news a few weeks ago, Scolia said he may have to revise his earlier statements supporting conceal and carry to not include carry weapons that can shoot down high altitude aircraft.

However, our 2nd amendment rights exist primarily to threaten any possible government here from going tyrant. It's all too complex for my little bean anyways. I just want to be able to coceal and carry in order to protect myself from unwanted aggression against me, if I can, especially in times when the policewo/men. Can't be there.... Which is most often than not.

There comes a time in every man’s life, when he stops bustin’ knuckles and starts bustin’ caps; usually it’s when he stops being stupid. I learned that in the military very early; using your hands just hurts your hands. With weapons comes responsibility, regardless whether it is one’s fists, baseball bat, auto, newspaper or soda straw. Laugh not, the last two are very lethal and silent.
God created people; Sam Colt made them equal.

* I don’t carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
* I don’t carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
* I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.
* I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the World.
* I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the real limitations of government.
* I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry. I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.
* I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.
* I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.
* I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.
* I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.
* I don’t carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.
* Personally, I carry a gun because I’m too young to die and gave up being stupid years ago.

Good words
unfortunately My government thinks or doesnt think much
that you have the right to own a gun, but for carrying it you need a special permitting

they are getting like that here pretty fast as well!
Ever since they dropped the Right to own Arms from the Constitution during the last total Revision, and it seems no one was brave enough to sound the Alarm before the People voted on it!
Now or Right has sunk to a mere "Tradition"!frustrated

How can they make such changes to a "constitution" without public meetings. Even the US EPA here is required to have public meetings for most issues before change can be made to rules, regulations and subsequent promulgations. I guess maybe you guys don't have a constitution that is for of and by the peoples.... maybe... what do I know.

Regardless, that' theres some scary chit! wow
