It seems that in all the Hollywood movies, you get the same ten or so Hollywood actors/actresses playing the parts. There are probably 2 or 3 or 4 times as many talented and capable actors and actresses in Hollywood who could do just as good a job, or better, but they aren't in the films because they are big enoough 'box office,' meaning those marketing the movie won't make enough money because the other actors don't draw enough people in. It bugs me to see the same actors over and over again in practically every movie. It is harder to get past thinking of that particular actor acting and get totally caught up in the movie.

Totally agree with you, been thinking that for years
Your last sentence makes me recall how every movie involving Tom Cruise/Denzel Washington/Bruce Willis etc etc etc was to me simply them, playing a role

My observations are a bit different; perhaps it is the type of movie. (I like a wide variety, for example). I'll throw out some names because it seems to me there are far more than "ten or so".
Harrison Ford, Aidan Quinn, Diane Keaton, Robin Williams, Dolly Parton, Dennis Quaid, Whoopi Goldberg, Adrien Brody, Gary Busey, Jack Black, Kevin Kostner, William Macy, Billy Bob Thornton, Steven Seagal, Benjamin Bratt, Renee Zellweger, Robert Carlyle, George Clooney, Terence Stamp, Sigourney Weaver. All have made great movies.

There are those who are subject to serious illness and even death due to lack of clean, fresh water to drink. Those who have been injured and killed in wars, those who have been orphaned, lost homes, devastated communities, made victims of corrupt governments, the bullied, homeless, oppressed, poor, tsunamis, earthquakes, torandaos, etc, etc.......
We are forunate to be able to just turn on a tap, flick a switch, jump in a car, get provisions, and even watch movies..... usually at the press of a button?
When are we going to wake up to just how well off we are? If that is the sum of our problems.....
No, in the grander scheme of things I'd say it doesn't bug me!

For a minute there I thought you jumped in the wrong forum (!) but I understand where you're coming from now. I find myself getting irritated at nonesense, and then remembering, gee, life's too short for all that and there are so many more important things to consider. It's better to dwell on stuff that makes us happy, content, and thankful.

Thats a very valid post Miss Danelion in the right context but in fairness this thread is posted in the movies/arts section.
I agree that a lot of the same actors seem to show up regularly. But I've also noticed a few duds at the box office lately, so some of the actors may be losing their lackluster. I have a tendency to like the original actors in a movie, and don't like replacements who later appear in sequels. For example, so-and-so gets too old to be in a movie, so they bring in a replacement that was the age the movie called for. A case in point would be the original James Bond. Now they have a much younger guy, but he doesn't fit my image of the original suave, virile man.
Once in a while, an epic movie comes along, like "Dances With Wolves", which someone on here thought was a dud for some reason. But it seems like the really good movies come along only once in a great while. Sometimes I see a movie and I think to myself, "This actor will probably never have another chance at an epic like this one." How often does a "Silkwood" or a "Green Mile" movie come along? Also, a lot of actors very carefully pick and choose which movies they will play in, so the scripts don't come along that often. Some movies are even written specifically for a particular actor.

What an idiotic response.
This is the "movies, TV, and theatre" thread. A thread to discuss movies, TV and theatre, not the major tragedies of the human condition. You fool.

Australian soaps are even worse, there´s about 3 actors shared between 10 soaps and they´ve all got strange names like "Biffy" "Frogfish" and "Wonkytree" What are these actors, rabbits?

I think I can write cognitively on this subject now, that I kind of "get the gist" of it a little better. The following "bugged" me back in the 60's and 70's, and I was just a stripling, then: 'My Three Sons'. Dad, the boys, and Uncle Charley all go camping. They forget the main course. The fishing is lousy, but they do catch a few to fry. In the wee hours of the morning, the tent falls in on Uncle Charley. Uproarious laughter. Great comedy. 'Family Affair'.-Uncle Bill, Buffy, and Jody, and of course, Mr. French all go camping. (Mr. French has scaled down his three piece Savoy Row suit to a mere Highland sweater vest. How butch). The fishing is lousy, but they manage to catch a few. That night, the tent falls in on Mr. French. Uproarious laughter. 'The Brady Bunch'.-The Bradys go camping. They forget the steaks. The fishing is lousy, but they catch some small fry. That night, the tent falls in on, guess who? Alice! Now, there DOES seem to be a little re-canning of Hollywood preserves, doesn't there?

Well, I've seen Kevin Costner over and over playing parts as an FBI agent (The Bodyguard), an American on an Indian range (Dances With Wolves), a golfer (Tin Cup), he even built a field for baseball (Field of Dreams), a football draft agent (Draft Day), a father of a troubled daughter (The New Daughter) and so many more. You name it Kevin has done it. He has been my favorite actor for a long time.
I also like Bradley Cooper who has played many different parts.
Halle Berry has also dug in and played various parts her most well known as a Bond Girl.
Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington, John Travolta have also played different avenues.
So to answer your question, no, actors don't bug me.

I don't go to the movies anymore for your stated reason because who are these actors anyway! AND!!! To get in you have to pay about $10 or more for a ticket, $5 or more for a soda, $5 or more for popcorn so your out $20 or more JUST TO GET IN!! No thanks!! They can keep their movies!

I don't go to the theater either. My cable package has a program called ON DEMAND. All the movies on there range from $2.95, $4.95 and the very latest $6.95.
I sit in my livingroom, not a dirty theater. When I want a snack I go to the kitchen, no extra charge.
.....if I see an actress who is great in certain funny roles, then each movie is fun....goldie hawn, for example......but when mary tyler moore decides to do a serious role......nah...!.....
