Woke up this morning to find my dog wobbly in the back legs and searched her and found a tick . Had to happen on Sunday morning didn't it. I rang the emergency vet but could only leave a number to ring back. I tried to remove the tick but can't get a good hold of it and only have tweezers that may squash the body. I heard this may inject more poison. Hope the vet rings soon.

Scary blues

Back from the vet....all good. thumbs up
They put a drip in her (have you seen the size of the needles in those things, nearly bigger than my lil dog wow ) and shes staying over night. Vet said it was better to take her in today than wait till Monday. Better for his bank account as well, no doubt. mumbling
Will have to remember the salt trick, thanks Ripple. wave

Scary

Oh gosh, a scary time for pet owners. I had a little dog who was wobbly, couldn't find any ticks, but just knew thats what it was. Took him to the vet, they found 5 paralysis ticks. It was too late for him. I never try and pull them off as , yes they start pumping their venom.
Can you travel to the vets. bouquet

Absolutely snagsmoore applause

Some folks might find it a bit strange to reach out to a forum for such a thing. But being 7am on a Sunday morning there was nothing else I could do but wait for the vet to call back and not wanting to phone anyone so early in the morning.

I live alone with only my puter and two dogs for company. So while I was feeling anxious it was great to jump online and make contact with other human beings (be it virually) wave Even better to get some advice that I could put to good use.

I am relatively new to this forum...but can I just say that I really enjoy being part of it, having a laugh, sharing day to day stuff, pics and music etc from everyone.

You all are a great bunch of peeps hug peace cheers handshake peace bouquet australia

A dog i had in NSW, pushed the part of his body that had tick up against my hand.
More often than not the tick will be found around region behind ear and or neck where dog can't reach it.
I used finger nails to pull them out, sometimes thankfully the tick lived, some times didn't. Like in the video Lookin posted, pull them out ASAP.

Some things that you can do, mow the lawns, keep dogs out of long grass, daily feel around the dogs neck, also helps the dog to know to tell you when he/she has a tick. Be mindful of what your dogs telling you...tick collars can and do help
