paradox42: Thanks for your answer Jill, May you are fine. let me see please, for example you posted a thread and I wanted to give my comment, and started by '' Dear Jill, in my opinion blah blah '' is this formal? or normal? or irrespect, officious?
That is fine and I wouldn't be offended by that at all. If you said "how are you today, dear?" It sounds like something an elderly person would say as well as not caring enough to use the persons name. Often men here will call any female baby so as not to get confused by the many girls he sees and that is what I find disrespectful.
doberman3: It's lame - it sicken's me. If you do it, I won't respond. I'm not a deer or a honey. Usually the guys that do this are a scammer
The Dobe
I get you Dobe. Personally I'm not a Dear or Honey kinda guy...prefer Baby...but would never call anyone that casually...only in the context of a relationship with respect.
What I don't understand is when a woman is offended if I say something like "Thank you ma'am". Now I do understand that in some cultures ma'am is short for a madame, but where I come from it was always meant as a polite way to address a lady.
montemonte: You're welcome. I was tempted to say... You're welcome honey but thought I might throw a curve ball in the thread. I'll send a hug instead
It's very nice of you to be concerned about such things as we are on an international site but in truth I wouldn't worry about it. As far as I know you've always been polite.
Hi Monte, Thank you for your kind message, same to you, vice versa. Yes, i have been here for two and a half months. I sometimes attend to forums if the thread is interesting and if not nonsense. I am happy to be here. Happy Easter even though our country doesn't celebrate

In the UK, 'madam' would refer to a more mature woman.
I'm currently in that middle ground where young men get twinkly-eyed and amused by addressing me as 'madam' and older men likewise, with addressing me as 'miss'.
Either way, I find it a bit cheeky and flirty and not at all offensive. Some might find otherwise with cheeky, or flirty; some might be offended by the reference to maturity. I dunno.
Certainly, it makes me cringe being called a 'lady' and I use the title Ms, rather than Miss.
(But I especially like 'ma'am' with an American accent...swoon.)
