doberman3: It's lame - it sicken's me. If you do it, I won't respond. I'm not a deer or a honey. Usually the guys that do this are a scammer
The Dobe
hey Dobe Lotta scammers use 'dear' I note Sickens me too!! Or 'darling'! So condescending I feel My grandmother called me dear and only my lover should call me darling!!
jac379: In the UK, 'madam' would refer to a more mature woman.
I'm currently in that middle ground where young men get twinkly-eyed and amused by addressing me as 'madam' and older men likewise, with addressing me as 'miss'.
Either way, I find it a bit cheeky and flirty and not at all offensive. Some might find otherwise with cheeky, or flirty; some might be offended by the reference to maturity. I dunno.
Certainly, it makes me cringe being called a 'lady' and I use the title Ms, rather than Miss.(But I especially like 'ma'am' with an American accent...swoon.)
You're so funny....I'm trying to say "ma'am" with an American accent. I think it's...."maaaaaaa'm with the emphasis on the "a's" to stretch it out.

funxsinia: Yes ma'am it can be a bit flirty
Then maybe some women might feel a bit threatened by that?
Hence the hostile reaction, maybe?
Or maybe some women get a bit fed up of always being treated in a certain way, even if they've just popped out to the shops for a loaf and pint of milk?
Kim431: deal with it, guys will call you anything they want does not mean they are a damn scammer, my god get a life.
christ , cool it Kim . You earn the right to call somebody dear, doll or hun by knowing them . Respect is what its about . Being to familiar to soon lacks abit of that . Scammers call me cute ,now I may be alot of things but thats not one .
Antoniacv: I dont like that eitherGetting a mail from someone for the very first time calling me -babe - baby -doll -honeyI dont know... just i think its not a nice way to approach someone ...for the very first time..

Well some terms of endearment are part of peoples culture, in Devon and Cornwall England it is natural to call a woman dear, or darling or with the older people, my beauty, If you are prejudiced against our cultural terms it is the same as being prejudiced against us.
