It's the religionists who have a strong need to believe in "cause and affect". To them a "god" has to be the cause. But don't ask what caused god. They have to have something to explain the mystery that has no explanation.
If religionists were to just believe in their god, that would be one thing. But they attach all kinds of non sense to that. Non sense such as, heaven and hell after life, eternal condemnation, son of god, immaculate conception, resurrection and so forth.
And they insist in ramming this crap down everyone's throats as they have for centuries. Now that people are freeing them selves from this, they think the world is going to hell.
They're an insecure bunch,,,

it is explained on the group’s website: " as atheists, agnostics and skeptics devoted to spreading nontheism

Been too “devoted”, means to me bias....

This old Chesnut. Not going to be solved in a forum. The greatest minds in the world have tackled this and if both the godists and atheists dont know then I doubt this method will.

I think tolerance is key. Accept we don't know....then everyone is free to believe what makes them happy. And one can only dream that humans learn to not bash each other over the head with one's own belief system

Phew I feel better now. Just that these posts seem to form the bulk of postings here....so probably not the right place for me clearly this sitehelp

Simply take a moment to think about the following statement:

"Hello, my name is Jesus. I love you deeply. I have loved you since you were conceived in the womb and I will love you for all eternity. I died for you on the cross because I love you so much. I long to have a loving personal relationship with you. I will answer all of your prayers through my love. But if you do not get down on your knees and worship me, and if you do not EAT MY BODY and DRINK MY BLOOD, then I WILL INCINERATE YOU WITH UNIMAGINABLY TORTUOUS PAIN IN THE FIRES OF HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY BWAH HA HA HA HA HA!"
Yes, this is the central message of Christianity. See John 6:53-54 and Mark 16:16.
Think about this message. We have a being who, according to the Standard Model of God, embodies love. Yet, if you do not get down on your knees and worship him, you will be physically tortured for all eternity. What sort of love is that?

The utter silliness and contradiction of Jesus' core message should make it obvious to you: God is imaginary.handshake peace

The ten commandments existed before Jesus, but it's true that the message is contradictory. You must be good in exchange of a recompense (heaven) and if not, you have a punishment (hell).

Altruist goodness is reserved for the saints, I suppose.
