Maus19: Is having xmas lights on all year long eccentric?? oh dear, I don't call meself eccentric. Lazy maybe when it comes to things like that. With my daughter's birthday party a few months back I used the same decoration from the previous year, it was and is still up. And next month is another birthday...
There's a saying, if you're not rich enough to be eccentric, you're just plain mad...
chris27292729: The Christmas lights were on,but why they were on???? Are they the oweners inside alive. If you pass the house every day,and you find the lights on every day, including the Christmas decoration, then as responsible citizen, simply you inform the police.Nothing "wrong' informing the police, even if the owers are alive inside. The "wrong' thing is not to inform the police.
Wasn't there a Greek going around Athens with a lit Lantern during bright Daylight! Or the Guy who could have had anything from Alexander the Great, but just asked him to please stop blocking the Sunlight? You know, the Guy who lived in a big Barrel?
and I can just imagine a situation where someone in the house missed the Christmas homecoming and they decided to create the season to share with loved ones... or perhaps someone has cancer and isn't expected to live to Christmas.... who knows and it is a lovely concept....
Conrad73: did you know that he died in the Poorhouse?
There must have been a mixup... Albert not Alfred, wooden leg, crooked eye, mean looking fella? Last time he wrote in 29 he said he was making tons of money.

For me the funniest holiday thing to see in regards to Christmas was in Florida, during a very bright sunny day with a clear blue sky and on the lawn in front of a house were large blow up plastic replicas of the Snowman, Santa Claus and a manger with baby Jesus and all the usual suspects.
It was quite ridiculous looking - but it was Christmas time and made me laugh.
Hi and good evening all. Just to explain for chris the lights were only turned on yesterday and on the way home a man was washing his car three doors away from the house, i being nosey asked about the xmas lights he told me that the people in the house do this every few years when there son comes home from Australia to see them so they can have christmas together sweet i thought so happy christmas to them.

That is really sweet why they do that. And kind. In my neck of the woods it is not uncommon to see christmas lights hanging. Been that way for years. I don't do it. Yet I don't give it another thought when I see it. Now a days tho we have lights here for almost every holiday.

Once more welcome to Florida we are here to amuse
It must be the heat here.... cause we do seem to have more than the usual lot of eccentrics, don't we.
Nikogas: Nothing wrong by our standards here in what we call the great NorthWest. Portland and surrounding areas. I remember taking the long way home late at night with our selves glowing a bit more than the indoor outdoor lights. We came upon a home that had plastic babies poping up as though someone had spread the seeds all over the entire front yard all the way to the walk. It was a kind of surrealistic feeling and obvious that someone or someones had taken a lot of time and energy to fill the yard with all the plastic babies. We laughed quite a long time after that. There were other themes going on in that area as well but that one stuck in my head. Down the street from where I live now there is a unique program going where they have decorated the pavement with many colors and placed a area to the side where people fix food and drink for people passing by. it is different. I have gotten used to things like this though over the years so it is no big deal.....just a nice feeling of trust. I have lights outside of my place as well. red and blue by the salon and then brighter colors that surround a framed painted glass with what might be a circle of colorful fishes.
that plastic baby yard sounds fabulous! love to see something like that. at home, i prefer indigenous plants and a wooded look in the yard. i don't even like manicured grass. however, when i lived in cinti, the neighbors filled my yard with plastic flowers (a gift while i was at work). flowers of all kinds and colors up to my waist in parts. the neighbors were absoluting 'beeming' when i arrived home to see what they had done. and proudly told me the cemetery across the bridge was throwing them away.. weelll...they had filled their own yard as well, and i didn't want to offend them, so i left the plastic flowers in the yard till i moved away (for two years)..

that's what i thought when i read it, too.
on the 'odd' scale...it seemed mild. i like 'odd',...shows individuality at its best sometimes.

To funny.
I also think the plastic baby would be a sight to see. I know me tho I would get to laughing and would not be able to stop. I would walk by just to see them pop up...
