God isnt the problem - people are

In the end the power structures inherent to every religion corrupt it - so you get followers of Mohammed (a very peaceful and intelligent man who often spoke of his respect for any form of religion that had sound rules and simple creeds) engaged in killing anyone they see as an outsider

You get followers of Jesus (the man who said dont judge, love thy neighbour, be meek, be poor) raising money for anti-gay-rights movements

You get followers of Buddha (one of the most peaceful holy men of all) rioting and burning followers of other religions alive in political disputes

The problem wasnt God, in any of these cases - nor - if indeed any of them actually spoke for God - was it the actions of the 'prophets'

Its people.
People are the most dangerous species on earth. They need keeping an eye on...

I've been told many a war has started over religion.

Nope it would not, it would be worse. The very foundation of our government was based upon the belief in God.

Eliminating organisation of religion probably would - disorganised people dont cause as much trouble.

In the end you cant stop anyone from believing things without becoming a monster every bit as terrible as some of those that have arisen from the various religions.

One can't eliminate something that is determinated by our individual deep conscience.

Not really, religion anchors the ego by creating a perspective upon and sense of place in existence, and for all the flaws of Western society I would not say that one of these flaws is a lack of ego.

We have Liberalism, non-judgementalism and solipsism in abundance... We have all these modern beliefs that remove the individual from standards of merit, which is essentially because the wetsern individual views themselves as godlike and impervious to the criticism of others and immune to aspects of reality which clash with their own self-interest.

No, people would create new religions. You don't actually need religion to believe blindly - one can believe in communism, in capitalism, in black cat crossing the street, or whatever! laugh To believe is easier than to think.

Eliminating telling people from the day they are born that they are sinners, no good, condemned, going to hell to be torture and all kinds of nonsense, scaring the crap out of them,,, would improve all our lives.
Slowly but surely this is happening.

It's still more true than telling people that they're born good.

Yes, the Real God is not the god of religion. Religion, is the beast of the scriptures.

They are born both good and bad. Scaring the crap out of them from day one does not help the situation.

They're born savage. And only through civilisation(which religion was an indispensable of)does humanity become greater than the sum of its parts. From the perspective of functional civilisation it is not incorrect to view people to be born sinners.

Within a week of the fiat currency going under we'll get to see how much better people in the west are for losing their religion. I think we'll resort to butchery and cannibalism before, and under less privation, than our Christian ancestors would have done.
