Is marriage at risk? ( Archived) (75)

Been quite a debate here so far.I suppose each country has their own statistics on married couples and union couples.
In USA
"Married adults now divorce two-and-a-half times as often as adults did 20 years ago and four times as often as they did 50 years ago... between 40% and 60% of new marriages will eventually end in divorce. The probability within... the first five years is 20%, and the probability of its ending within the first 10 years is 33%... Perhaps 25% of children ages 16 and under live with a stepparent." As of 2009, first marriages which ended in divorce lasted a median of 8 years for both men and women. The median time to separation from first marriages was about 7 years.

Other than marriage, there are three types of relevant unions in the United States: civil unions, domestic partnerships, and cohabitation.

For me marriage is based on love, no other reason.

If marriage is on risk it will cause problems, foundations on how families live their lives, each is a story, new experiences and a new generation growing up in it.

A debate? I wouldn't call it that but thanks for the stats.

lalasierra: Now THAT'S funny!

Change? For whom? For what reason? Just so a few more people will like my topics? I'm sorry, but I'm not being paid to do this. Like I said before, I can't please everyone and this is just supposed to be for fun and entertainment. Not to loose sleep over or condem me because you THINK you know me.

Change to become a better person, for yourself, not so people will like you. It's called growth, people do that you know. laugh

As I said in my previous post, I don't know you, and if you had read it, rather than reacting the way you did, you'd see that. All I know of you, is from what you post in the forums, and my previous view still stands.

Your choice, grow, or stagnate. stuck

a construct

and, yeah, OW is correct - the future will be very different, but am not sure his "final" analysis is correct... it's a crap shoot and those who stand last will decide what's important. marriage by law, is possibly a fashion that will go out the window. I know quite a few who are successful couples without legal binding.
peace

I'm thinking: movie series Mad Max...

I know plenty of people who are not married and have been committed to each other for several years. They live together and some have children. They are solid, loving relationships and I don't see how a marriage license would make them any different.

First, let me say lalasierra that I do not see your question as biased. It seems to be simply an inquiry into the viability of conventional marriage, a valid question to ask. Your question indeed presents two choices single and married. Perhaps the way you worded it could be improved. But this is not a linguistic forum, and I do not agree with the writer for attacking you ad hominum. Keep up your postings. There's room on this site for everyone.
