Has anyone got any idea how I would go about making my own apple cider/ moonshine.

I have a great deal of apples and don't just want to make pie's or jams.

BATF might have some!
Before you are getting into anything, better check with them!
Distilling Alcohol without Permission is a serious thing, and is frowned upon!

There's kits you can buy, some come with the necessary additives aswell. Don't know where to get them now, but a mate of mine years and years ago bought a kit to make some sort of pish. laugh

Well first you have to wash the apples put them in barrels and wait for some 20 days if the temperature is warm enough,if not, you`ll wait longer ( fermentation)
after that you will need such a equipment ( I don`t know the English name )

Its best if you have someone who actually knows whats to be done

If you want top quality schnapps ,you`ll get just a few liters from 200 kilogram of apples

I don't get that whole "hiding posts" thingy....

I generally just scan through a thread, don't read every post unless it's one of the rare ones that stay on topic and are interesting, but as soon as I see a hidden post, I have to look to see what was said laugh

to the OP
used to live where there were crab apples in the yard...made hundreds of jars of crab apple jelly....i didn't know then one can use them for wine or adding to cider...cider would of been way more fun!

good luck with your cider making wine

In response to: Has anyone got any idea how I would go about making my own apple cider/ moonshine.

Basically it's a 2 step process.
Step 1, Fermentation. That means you let the apples basically rot. Yeast is added or just use the natural yeast on the apples and you add sugar for the yeast to eat. The yeast eats the sugar forming a by product, alcohol. This produces what is known as "Hard Cider". You'll be lucky to get 10% alcohol. The next process is.
Step 2, Distillation. This means heating the hard cider in a sealed flask, collect the steam and condense it. That's hard liquor.
Most Moonshine is made from corn though, not apples.

Think about donating the apples to a homeless shelter. Or donate the apples to a senior citizens center. They will be glad to make pies and then sell them for a little extra money.

I don't know the laws where you are. Essentially you add yeast to make wine first, then you run it through a distiller to make a higher alcohol content. But you can't make moonshine from apples. Moonshine is a corn drink.
