This isn't bad news for the Koch Bros., or any of their subsidiaries.
It's just business as usual - pay the damned pesky EPA fine of a measly 50K, a few months' accumulated 10K per day fines to placate the authorities (and don't forget to give some generous donations to some prominent Illinois Republican lawmakers along the way) then move the pile, or better yet send/sell it off to China to burn (no pesky EPA there).
They knew when they deposited it exactly what they were doing, no surprise there. They knew a fine was coming, no surprise there either. They probably made many millions in producing the petroleum coke so what's a few hundred thousands in fines?
This has been their "modus operandi", over and over again, and if a local environment suffered, so what? If local people suffered, so what? If they poisoned a stream or a lake or a community, so what? Pay the fine and carry on ...
Until a community raises up, and brings a class-action lawsuit with a gigantic $ threat it will continue, and they will continue to harp-on-ad-nausea about the big-bad EPA picking on them!
