Schools teach children to obey. They espouse the things we—the ruling generation—want kids to know. No wonder most schools are pressure cookers where bored teachers meet bored children.... Modern education is a wasted investment. It doesn't deliver what we need the most: creative answers to the challenges of our times... It isn't a surprise that many of the people who've had the greatest influence on our times were—from the perspective of education—failures.
— Jurriaan Kamp, Ode magazine editor

probably spot on, most people today be stuffed without supermarkets supporting them, while food produces are treated like the lowest scum in the country, food is not valued while education provided rich kids with life long playground that avoids good old hard yakka

That has been the objection for a while now, schools teaching kids not only how to think but what to think. Kids are to long kids these days some way into their adulthood and that is due to the prolonged education.

Why would it be a joke thread when there are all forms of education not just a system. People did alright without this compressed education which 90% of kids will never use. dunno

AgentAjax: Do you mean what teacher care about? Do you think parents really care about teacher wages?

I could not sleep soundly without responding to your misdirected comment AA.

I must protest that no where in this thread have I mentioned teachers wages. Although I have responded to a link posted by Merri that made reference to the subject.

On the contrary, this thread is about federal government's funding of education. Feel free to read back through for clarification.

Some interesting quotes about Education:

"The whole educational and professional training system is a very elaborate filter, which just weeds out people who are too independent, and who think for themselves, and who don't know how to be submissive, and so on - because they're dysfunctional to the institutions." - Noam Chomsky

"Governments don't want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. That is against their interests. They want obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept it." - George Carlin

"Student who acqurire large debts putting themselves through school are unlikely to think about changing society. When you trap people in a system of debt they can't afford the time to think. Tuition fee increases are a disciplinary technique, and by the time students graduate, they are not only loaded with debt, but have also internalized the disciplinarian culture. This makes them efficient components of the consumer economy." - Noam Chomsky

"It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education" - Albert Einstein

"Note to teachers: It's not our job to prepare kids for college. It's our job to prepare kids for life. Sadly, those aren't always the same thing" - unknown

"The question is not whether young people can be persuaded to learn, it is: what STOPS them, or puts them off." - Claxton (2008)

I said " I guess" because of the ding dong that thought the baccalaureate was dropping out of high school...

but then I realised what it was all about and replied above..

Don't say... "why would it"... when I have not confirmed it.. "I guess" means I guess... not "that is"...

Ben Lexan was a high school dropout I think he dropped out in year 9 and ended up a successful boat builder and of course invented the keel that helped us win the Americas cup. grin
