okay, so...it's pretty damned chilly out today. two of my girls (8 & 10) catch the bus on the corner of our street, and they leave the house all of five minutes before it gets there.
as i'm shaving the ice off of my windows this morning to head to class, this man drives up. "it's cold out this morning."
"yep."
"i offered your girls a ride to the bus stop, but they refused me."
"good!"
"huh?"
"my children are taught to not accept rides from strangers. thanks for the offer, but they are not allowed to take it."
"well, at least *i* was trying to be nice, and care that they walked in the cold!"
"thanks for your concern, i'm sure they are fine...it's just a block. good day."
at which point he looked like he wanted to blow a gasket or yell and scream. i know, i'm a bad mom.
good job teaching them that its not safe lori.. your a good mom.. i'd rather my kids walk a block in the cold than take a ride from a stranger that could very easily take them and kill them..
definitely they are in for a treat. hot chocolate is a wonderful idea!!!
i know, i know...i COULD have spent twenty minutes getting the van going...drove down there and dropped them off. but realistically, one freaking street isn't hurting anyone.
You are a great Mom to have ingrained that in your children!!!! And you definetely should be proud of them!!! Thank God they listen to you and followed what you taught them!!!!!!!!!!!!

He could have been sincere but then he may not have been sincere. You did good in not allowing the chance to find out by teaching your kids to not accept his offer.
I would have to think he was sincere due to the fact that he knew you were their mother and that he stopped to tell you, but kudos too you Lori. Ya did good!
he lives four doors down...i do not know his name or anything about him, other than that. i do know that i would have KILLED them if they had taken it, lol...
he probably WAS sincere, and seemed to be faulting me for not driving them. waa. cold temps aren't going to make them sick, nor is it going to cause damage...nto for a block.
great job to you on teachin your girls not to ride with strangers, my little brother has to walk two blocks to the bus stop and i tell him its not going to kill him towalk lol
Although what has always interested me, is the fact that we tell our kids that they should never accept presents from strange men. We also tell them that they should shut the doors and windows as we dont want anyone breaking into the house.
So why the jumping-jee-hossophat, do we say that some fat old boy in a white beard, and red romper suit climbing down the chimney with a sack full of gifts EVERY YEAR, is ok?
She won't even let me babysit for her. I'm good with kids! All you gotta do is give them lots of sugar and caffeine and they'll go right to sleep...right?
I would be proud of the girls, too. They managed on their own which does teach them responsibility and they did the right thing by no accepting a ride from a stranger. I think it would give me a good feeling to know that you can trust them to do the right thing even though an easier way was offered. I think the good samaritan that offered the help must not have had to raise girls before and that the answer you gave him hopefully awakens him to the damage that he could of done to them by offering them a ride. I am not saying that he is bad but I think it would be goof for him to go back and read the story of Little Red Riding Hood or Hansel and Grettle. A child can be too trusting and there are real dangers out there. I am just glad your two girls are ok. I was glad I could be a school bus driver for two years to take my kids to school with me. You are a good mom.
