I wouldn't talk about love, just desperation and I wouldn't expect a healthy long-term relationship out of something like that.

Perhaps some women may lower their expectations to where ordinary mortals

The topic is loneliness Tom, not communication to seek a partner and "lowering your expectations".
From my experience, it is hard when someone gets out of a relationship and looking for someone out of loneliness without being ready can make for some bad decisions - that was what my answer is about, I don't believe in perfection btw. as we all have faults.

No it's not. Love has nothing to do with loneliness.
Loneliness is the most common reason for people breaking their standards and settling for someone they may later resent. Love rarely gets into the equation.

Yes I agree with that, loneliness is different to solitude, some people enjoy solitude as time to get themselves together and recharge their batteries, whereas people tend to seek company to alleviate loneliness and a bond can form .

People can be lonely living in a city of 10 million people? it is more about making a connection with someone on a personal level.
Or on the opposite side, you can have lots of friends and have a loving family ...... but if you don't have that special person to love, you can still feel lonely.

My point was that I felt lonely after a long relationship - and I realised that after going on a few dates, it was too early and not a good idea. I personally wouldn't start chatting/trying to meet someone when I feel lonely because I think for ME it wouldn't be the right motivation and I mightn't have the best judgement.
When I'm happy with my life and ready I have met the right person in the past.

The fear of being alone i feel is a factor in having a relationship that may be construed as love.
Personally i have no fear of being alone, so my choices will be clearer in the future.

I fully agree on the "seek social connections" part, family and friends are vital to not feel lonely or isolated.
I'm glad I can call on people should I ever feel lonely, I personally wouldn't go out looking for a relationship when I'm not feeling my best though.

@Mc Yes I think we can agree I'm not so insular as to think my solutions must be the only ones, I too am in a foreign country where the inhabitants are not the most welcoming of people, in Ireland you have a friendly and welcoming people.

People were very good to me when I came to Ireland and I made friends in the start I still have.
