I'm not sure I know what you mean by echo.

My solution is to sell it on the open market for the Billions of dollars they say it's worth and use the money to beef up security of the animals like hiring more wardens and launch a concerted campaign to apprehend the poachers and strengthen the laws against poaching and educating the consumers that Rhino horn wont help your Erectile Dysfunction any more than drinking sewage. Furthermore, flooding the market with this stuff will lower the price making it less lucrative to risk going to jail or worse for the small amount of money you will earn by killing these magnificent beasts.

You posted this earlier. Hence the echo.

If it's sold legally, it won't be worth as much as they claim. Only have to look at the drug hauls the coastguard confiscate, where they claim it's worth millions, but it's not exactly a heavy weight.
So what is billions in illegal trade, could potentially only be a million on the open market.

The poachers are so many steps ahead, that they have better weapons and technology to aid them on their missions. The ivory trade may only be a small part of what they deal in.

Personally, I'd say to use the army to catch the poachers. Issue out warnings a month or so in advance, that anyone out caught poaching, will be used as target practice. It would give the army training and serve a purpose that would benefit the wildlife.

I'm flattered that you remembered.
I like your idea of using the poachers for target practice but I don't think they are really the biggest bad guys any more than some street drug dealer is. It's the characters up the food chain that are the real problem. I think the native pulling the trigger probably gets a pittance for doing all the hard work and taking the biggest risks. It wouldn't surprise me if the final markup was several 1000 times what he gets paid.

pedro27: some people eat them

I think the problem is that they use animal parts for traditional therapies.

These doubtful remedies, like rhino horn dust, are the cause of illegal hunting.

Dedovix: We seem to be slow learner, guided by our greed ... The town that hanged an elephanthttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2559840/The-town-hanged-elephant-A-chilling-photo-macabre-story-murder-revenge.html

blues Disturbing.. I read the whole article. Unsurprising when you think about it, coming from the lynch mob mentality that existed at the time. Another elephant was electrocuted!
As for the atrocity under discussion, who knows.. brainstorming of ideas to counter it from the top are also needed.
