Why do people still believe in God? (178)

Thanks Ekself. I have had many out-of-the-body experiences that have given me the inner conviction that I am not the physical body and not a temporary sentient being. I just seemed to know intuitively, or as a soul or spirit being, that I can never die. Unfortunately I cannot prove this to anyone else. I have realized that each one of us is on our own unique path of self-discovery, and yes, it's not fair to force our unproven beliefs on our fellow travelers. Sure we can voice our opinions and learn from one another but as we are well aware, many a war was the outcome of strongly held, though unproven, religious beliefs.

ekself: It is true...some maybe have a greater need for that something personal than others. But still...why a God who demands so much and gives so little in return except maybe the grand prize of a place in heaven.
I agree! But I think they really don't see God as giving so little. They count ordinary things as blessings and view trials and conflicts in life as "mysteries" or maybe "tests."

Ehh, assuming that's serious, it's just plate tectonics, cold and warm fronts, and so on.
But if anyone believes that a god does that stuff, he or she should wonder about what kind of god would do that! Not one worthy of any admiration, that's for sure.

Maybe all Gods exist. Maybe we too are Gods in the making. As it says somewhere in a few scriptures "Ye are Gods". This brings to mind a recent song, 'What if God was one of us, just a slob like one of us?'
Apparently the souls who live on the closest plane above this physical can be easily taken for Gods because of their brightness, beauty and powers yet this is only the lowest spiritual plane in the grand hierachy.
In eastern and mid-eastern scriptures, we are told that the divine is experiencing life through each soul and that this is a never-ending process. God or the divine is ever becoming.

I found paganism great when I studied different religions and ways of worshiping. So natural and making a lot of sense even to a critical person like me...

Saleem bhai, Allah is a minor creator God. He can create bodies and but not souls. His jurisdiction is only over the astral plane and this physical dimension. These two regions alone have so many worlds so he tells you "I'm the Lord of the Worlds." Misleading.
Above him are more powerful guys like Khuda, Brahm and Haq (Truth)

I recall the 2 opposing flashing signs at Piccadilly Square in London many years ago: on one side it was "God Is Dead", Nietzsche, on the opposite side was "Nietzsche Is Dead", God. One may as well ask , Why Does God still believe in People? I certainly wouldn't bother; same as with trust; I would trust people to always do the wrong thing...That's life.
