Not sure I agree. But if that is the case then maybe it is more about nice guys not taking a chance or a risk and sitting on the sidelines waiting to be noticed.

I do appreciate a kind, caring, intelligent and well mannered guy.
"Nice" is one of many different characteristics, and if the other characteristics of a guy are not particularly "sparkling", he mightn't be able to attract who he wants.
That someone opens a door for a female won't help if he can't hold a conversation.
