chemistrymajor: Great song 2intrigued, I remember it made it to number one.
Very nice rendition of Deep Purple, especially the bittersweet images of a lost love. I know the feeling pining for the loves of my youth. If only one could go back there for just one day.

As songs go though, I like this version better.

Mr. B and the gang could swing out like nobody's business. No wonder swing dancing is still__ so popular.

Wow Jean how can anybody top that?

Here's a recording from 1928 which I find facinating. What makes this recording so amazing is besides it being a really nice song, and some great Cornet playing by Bix Beiderbecke, the vocals by Frankie Trumbauer are nothing short of horrible (note when he utters "You make the sun come shining through", it sounds like he's straining to reach the notes, and barely makes it). For some reason when I hear this part my mind flashes back to the "Gong Show".
A little sidebar, Bix was only 28 when he died.

"Beiderbecke died in his apartment, No. 1G, 43-30 46th Street, in Sunnyside, Queens, on Thursday, August 6, 1931. The week had been quite hot, making sleep difficult, and late into the evenings, Beiderbecke had played piano, both to the annoyance and to the delight of his neighbors. On the evening of August 6, at about 9.30 pm, his rental agent, George Kraslow, heard noises coming from across the hallway. "His hysterical shouts brought me to his apartment on the run," Kraslow told Philip Evans in 1959.

He pulled me in and pointed to the bed. His whole body was trembling violently. He was screaming there were two Mexicans hiding under his bed with long daggers. To humor him, I looked under the bed and when I rose to assure him there was no one hiding there, he staggered and fell, a dead weight, in my arms. I ran across the hall and called in a woman doctor, Dr. Haberski, to examine him. She pronounced him dead."

Al Hirt did a great rendition of that song.

Here is one of my all time favorites. I just found out these guys were from Ireland. They got the map of Ireland all over their faces don't they? What a pure powerful voice I get goosebumps listening to this.

This song deserves to be on a soundtrack. Dedicated to all from the great state of Alabama.
