In response to: Have you ever ha to go through some of you own belongings, things that you've forgotten about, stored somewhere, like your parents home(s)?
Been doing this for the last few nights, in my Dad's garage, despite the cold weather. I haven't found a lot that's interesting, but some items have brought back a lot of memories. Some of the great neighbours I had while growing up, men and women both, and some of friends I had, that I haven't seen in 20/30 years.
Have you found anything stashed away, that you haven't seen in years, that brings back any memories, good or bad?
Hi Kid
Yeah, we were clearing out the attic of my parents' home recently, and what should have taken an hour or two turned into about 9!
I found all my books and essays from university. And I searm if the essays weren't in my own handwriting, I would have thought they were somebody elses!
I had been able to write thousands of words on subjects that I would nearly have to Google now, just to know what they meant!
I was very impressed with my former academic self!

Yes I have done that. They are things that my daughter made for me when she was a child and even later on in middle school. She is now 50 years old. I have a box of things she made which I titled Mementoes. Every so many years I'll look through the box with fondness and tell her about it. She could care less. She doesn't get attached to anything whereas I find it difficult to throw anything out that she gave me.

I got so carried away saving stuff about her that I still have her report cards and Honor Roll Certificates. I'll never throw anything out so that when I die and she goes through my stuff she might have a fond remembrance of her childhood.

School report cards would hold no fond memories for me!
kidatheart: Glad to hear of at least a few people finding things, from their childhood or recent years. Things they have forgotten, or even things they knew were there.
PS: I'm not a hoarder.
Hoarders collect anything and everything, a lot of which has no real value or use. Everything I have is good stuff, has an actual use in my life, or is at least worth something. I have no time or space for crap, end of.

Looking through my mothers papers, I found her quarterly report card from her village in Alaska. At the top of her grades it stated, "QUALITIES DESIRABLE FOR SUCCESSFUL CITIZENSHIP IN A DEMOCRACY"

how many projects do you have on the go.....?
Hoarders (2009) : was a US documentary series on A&E which depicted the real-life struggles and treatment of people who suffer from compulsive hoarding disorder.

9 hours isn't bad, I spent about 20 hours in my Dad's garage, in 10 to 25 below temps. I did more than clean up my own stuff though, that was the easy part. I also cleaned up both of my brother's crap, and some of my Dad's too.
I went through my Mom's stuff a couple years ago after she passed away, and she had saved all of our report cards as well as a bunch of other stuff, including pictures. That was a lot longer of a process, and more difficult, but it was a neccessity.

All I can say is....many.
Funny thing is, I seem to finish the less worthwhile projects long before the ones that I think I should be concentrating on. They're easier, granted, but still, I think it's that memory of long hard winters that makes me put some of them off, until better weather arrives. Yet, I now live in a decent climate, where I can do a lot of them year round, but don't.
I was ready to start digging today to start a retaining wall and some fence posts, but the ground is still frozen a few inches down, so that'll have to wait. In the meantime, I think I'll build a garden shed, even though it's a "new" project. One of many that have yet to be finished, all waiting for that one last piece, or pieces to be done.
I get the feeling some day, it'll be like EVERYTHING happened seemingly overnight, when it's all done, when those last few bits finally got done, arrived, etc...
